Space Mountain & Big Thunder Mountain Railroad

Are there any big hills on these ride? I don't like that feeling of dropping. To make it simple - I do not do ToT, Splash (which I probably will this next time) or roller coasters in general because I hate the drops. I can handle being tossed around and such, but just don't like the big hills. :earseek:

Space Mountain does have a big drop. Not as big as Splash Mountain, but still a drop. BTMRR doesn't really have drops. It's more of a back and forth motion.

If Splash Mountain's drop is 5 stories, how big would you say the one for Space Mountain is?

Also - I get motion sickness pretty easy. Can't do Star Tours, a plane without dramamine or too much bouncing......do you think Space Mountain would make me ill?

actually BTMRR has one or two sharp drops that give that stomach feeling

Well, Space Mountain moves pretty fast. Sometimes when you go around corners you get banged around. And a drop on Space and also in BTMRR you get a little "air time"- when you go up over a drop and you go up in the air.

Space mountain does not have that traditional "big rollercoaster drop", but the darkness can be disorienting. So, the ride seems faster, and the drops and curves feel bigger. It is a pretty smooth ride, though. My DD7 and DD8 will be taking their first rides next trip.

The BTMR drops are not big. It is mostly all swooping curves and a smooth ride. DD rode it on her 4th b-day and just loved it!

:flower:

Splash has the big drop, BTMRR has some smaller but still very noticable drops, and Space Mountain has drops of the same degree as BTMRR.

Star Tours motion is completely different from Space Mt.'s motion. It sounds like you get motion sickness from your vision and your body not experiencing the same thing (you can't see out the front of the plane but your body knows it's going forward; you see motion on the screen at Star Tours but your body is feeling motion that isn't exactly the same as what you see). On a roller coaster your body feels what your eyes see, therefore it may not make you feel ill. However, it's dark in Space Mt. so you don't see what your body will feel before you're already feeling it.

Take a dramamine and enjoy your day. :)

There are definitely drops on BTMRR. And, they come at the end of a big rise so you get that 'way up and then way down again' feeling. They aren't BIG drops, but they are most certainly noticable and your tummy will feel them.

That was exactly my point!! You hit it on the head. :teeth:

Especially - "get motion sickness from your vision and your body not experiencing the same thing"

"However, it's dark in Space Mt. so you don't see what your body will feel before you're already feeling it."

I was wondering if all of the lights in there will make me feel ill? You don't think so?

I have to drive everywhere or else I will get sick.

I can handle that - I actually like that a lot. Just not the :earseek: "Oh crap, when will we get to the bottom of this hill" :earseek: feeling. :teeth:

All the lights in where? Do you mean Space Mt? There aren't lights in Space Mt., it's pretty much in the dark (well, in the very dim anyway).

Space Mt. is a Wild Mouse ride like you'd find at most amusement parks. It's just in the dark which makes each turn, hill, drop, and bump feel more intense because you don't see it coming and you can't prepare for it. If you can handle the feeling of the tickle in your tummy (it only lasts a moment, it's not a long drop at all) you'll be fine. Ask to sit in the front row so you can see just a bit of the track. That will help you anticipate the ups and downs.

Thanks cleo. I was always under the impression that Space Mountain had red and blue lights lining the tunnel walls. Still dark, but designed to make you feel like you are going faster than the 28mph that Disney states it goes.

After you load into your rocket and you turn the corner to go up the first big hill (which, by the way, doesn't have an equal 'drop' on the other side so don't get scared!) there are some lights that make it a bit brighter in that spot, but not lights that are racing by you. And just before the ride is over I think there are some more lights as you slow down.

What you may be thinking of are the lights you see racing around when you go through Space Mt. on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. You can also see the glowing stripes on the side of the rockets from the TTA. But that's not what you see when you're on Space Mt. itself.
