Slushy Magic Review

I admit it..my dd (10) is an infomercial junkie. Many a Saturday morning has been spent at our house watching infomercials instead of cartoons. Last week we were at an outlet mall and saw a kitchen store. Went in, were browsing around, when suddenly her whole face lights up (imagine light from the heavens shining down on her). I look to see what she's eyeing, and it's the Slushy Magic. Having extra cash for once, I shelled out the $14.95 and figured if nothing else, it might teach her a lesson.

Lo and behold..the thing actually works. A week later, and it's probably paid for itself. She's had orange cream slushies (oj and yogurt..I know sounds gross, but is actually tasty), capri-sun slushies, tropical punch slushies, lemonade/iced tea slushies, cola slushies, chocolate milk slushies and strawberry-banana smoothies. I have a feeling that in a few months I'm going to be ordering new "magic" ice cubes for the thing. Definitely money well spent if anyone is looking for an easy birthday gift or something of that nature. The only downside is that now she's probably going to think ALL the infomercial stuff will be wonderful! Oh well..I've also started alternating arms when I shake the sucker..somehow I have a feeling it works better than a shake weight ;)

Made me Laugh out loud!! But I am wondering why the 10 year old isn't shaking her own shakes???

We have this too! I bought mine at the NYS Fair this past summer. My son loves it! We haven't been as creative as you but we do juice, sodas occasionally, Kool Aid. My only gripe is that the cubes take up so much room that you don't get much for slush product. We have been successful using two cubes though as long as the liquid you are using is also cold.

Until you mentioned it I had never thought about it for a birthday gift. That's a pretty good idea!

She usually starts out shaking it herself, but it does seem to take vigorous shaking unless you want to be shaking it for ten minutes! Right now her port is accessed as well, which leaves her one-armed.

I had thought about trying two cubes, but hadn't- so that's good to know! We've also put chopped up strawberries and blueberries in it, which works well! She really likes the addition of the vanilla yogurt also. I'm also always looking for easy birthday presents- it seems unique enough that most kids prob don't have one, and is in the right price range for us :)

DD6 saw it on tv the other day and wants it for her birthay which is this Saturday. has anyone seen them in stores?

My DH got this for our DD10 for Christmas (he always gets her one special gift just from him) and I have to say, it is awesome! The only thing she didn't like was white milk. A little chocolate makes it much better, though. He bought it at the As Seen on TV store at our local mall.

My mom got my dd's one each for Christmas from the big e which is a huge fair here. They really do work too. I was impressed expect for the fact that I am the one that has to shake them but other than that they are great.

My daughter got one from her bff for her birthday and she uses it all the time! She loves it and has tried all kinds of things in it - chocolate milk, oj, kool-aid, soda.

I think it was a pretty different but cool b-day gift to get!

Thank you for the review. My DD has seen that on TV too and has wanted but I was telling her no way - thinking it wouldn't work. Maybe I'll have to surprise her now!

=)

Thanks for the review. I was wondering if/how well they worked. My girls both want it, so I think it is going on the birthday list now. :)

I think Bed Bath and Beyond sells them. I haven't seen a coupon for a while though.

Thanks for the review! I too was in the camp that there was no way they could possibly work. We have a couple birthday parties coming up and I think these would be the perfect gift!

Thanks for the review. My DS5 saw it on TV and.really wanted it, but I told him no way it.wouldn't work. Now I might have to try to find him one in the stores

Thanks for the great review. My ds7 wanted one sooo badly that I caved in and ordered it on-line. Of course, they were out of stock and I ended up cancelling. I've since seen a negative review done on some local news station so decided against it. Looks like we might have to go buy one now!

The negative review thing baffles me somewhat.. the only negative to me is that, as I mentioned, it can take some rigorous shaking, particularly with dairy based products (or that's how it seems to me, anyway.) I am curious to see how long the magic cubes last.

We picked ours up at an out of town outlet mall- I want to say the name of the store was Kitchen Innovations, but I paid cash and trashed the receipt.

I think maybe negative reviews could come from people expecting a harder slush product like a snow cone. You won't get that for sure. What you get is more like a 7-11 Slushy or Icee but slightly thinner.

saw it at walgreens i think it was 16.99 but not sure! its on are list to get!! hoping it might be cool to for frozen koolaid this summer!!
:)

Glad to see this review, too! My 5-yr-old told me about it just this morning and said he wanted one and I had no idea what he was talking about. I may have to check out BB&B or venture over to the As Seen on TV store.

My DD has a birthday coming up in late March and she wants this. I told her no because of the bad reviews online. Now I may have to look for it and give it a try. I'll look at BB&B or Walgreens and surprise her.

Most of the negative reviews I have seen has been about not making so much because the 3 cubes take up most of the room. I think we'll try 2 cubes when we get it. My kids love fruit punch, so those will make good slushies.

Thanks for the review.
