If you own a SLR and a slimmer point and shoot camera, which one do you end up using in the parks???? I am torn. You may get better pics with the SLR, but I am worried about the size of the SLR.

TIA

I end up only using the SLR on specific days in the parks with a specific purpose to take photos that day. I use it only really to take the more artistic and fun photos that the SLR can really deliver. Otherwise I usually just bring the point and shoot. I worry about damaging my SLR on attractions, and it is heavy, and I don't bring bags in the parks without it and I hate going through the bag check at the park entrances :)

I'd suggest just bringing a point and shoot.

I've done both, and it just seems to be more of a hassle to bring my SLR.

I, too, worry about damaging mine. Much cheaper to replace a point and shoot camera.

I am moving this over to the Camera & Photography board. You'll get the best answers .. and the most variety .. on that board.

Thanks.

Well, on this board, you will get support to bring it and use it often. Many of us bought DSLRs because we wanted to take pics at WDW! As long as you have a good strap and a decent pack you should have no problems. I have an OP/Tech strap and Lowepro pack.

I agree. I can't imagine not bringing my dSLR. I bought one that was lighter than most so carrying it isn't a big issue.

ETA forgot to say I always keep my point and shoot in my purse too.

I agree also.
I bought my DSLR so that I could take pics at WDW.
I also have a P&S which I do take some times instead of the SLR but it depends what sort of day I have planned.

Another vote for both! The compact doesn't really add too much to the luggage, so make room for the DSLR and bring the compact along.

I tend to pick either a day, or some times during a few days, to bring the DSLR and make it my photo time - just take it slow and look at all the details. Then, if I'm in the park to have fun, ride rides, and hang with family or friends, I bring the compact along - I can still get cool shots if I see them, take fun snaps, and never find myself without a camera when something good goes down - but don't have to worry about carrying the extra weight or bothering the fam by always wanting to stop and set up for a special shot.

Believe me, you'll find that some of your best shots may actually come from the compact...the DSLR is much more capable, and you can use that to really set up for beautiful, well composed artistic shots...but every once in a while you catch a great spontaneous or fleeting moment with the compact that you otherwise might have missed, and it will forever justify why you brought both cams.

I've gone to WDW 4 times. Each time I've brought an SLR. 2 times with film and 2 times with digital. My second trip I brought a digital PnS and a film SLR. I did end up using the PnS more often, but in the end I liked the pics produced by the film SLR so much better. Less than 2 months after that trip I bought a dSLR and now I get the best of both worlds. The convenience of digital and the quality of the slr.

I took my SLR's with me everywhere including rides. Definatly worth getting the Op/Tech strap. Best $16 I spent. Makes the straps that come with the camera feel like your wearing a chain.

This question is asked regularly. Nearly everyone is going to recommend the SLR. Why buy an SLR just to leave it at home when going somewhere like Disney, which is going to have countless opportunities to make the camera really shine and be worth the money you spent on it?

If we bring along a PnS, it's only for the video functionality.
