Roaster and slow cookers are definitely not the same. The roaster is like an oven and cooks much faster. We have one and love it. It cooks much faster than a slow cooker. The knob will be in degrees - 250, 300, 350 etc. That is set just like an oven.
But if you want to slow cook something, don't you just put it on a low temp (set the roaster at 250 for instance) and doesn't that just cook it slowly? I did not mention a temperature in my first post because I am not sure what a safe temperature would be.
