Has anyone had any success when going to the slots? I know it's an odd question to ask. But, DH and I have been asked by a couple of people from DH's work to go to the Charles Town Races & Slots. I've never done anything like that before and I don't want to go and lose a lot of money, but I thought it might be a fun thing to do.

They best advice I've ever heard is to only gamble with money you are planning to leave behind at the casino. They call them "games of chance" but the chance they're talking about is the "chance for the casino to make profit." People do win -- that's the only way the casinos can get other folks to play, but on average the gambler will lose.

That's the one thing I told DH. We're only taking the money we're willing to lose-NO MORE!!!

I agree with what bicker said. Decide how much money you are willing to lose and don't take a penny more than that.

DH and I go to the gambling boat about once a year. We spend enough to have some fun with but don't spend enough to be upset over when we leave. One time I won close to $300 but that's all the luck I've ever had.

Have fun :)

One year when I was camping in CT we went over to Foxwoods for a few hours and I ended up 800.00 richer when I left..I was able to pay for the RV we rented for the whole week with that! Usually I end up losing but a few times have come out ahead...I usually only take 1,000 with me when I go and if that runs out then I am done...

 That much!!! Wow, I was thinking about maybe taking $50 each.

Yikes, maybe we'll play the penny machines. ;)

I'm so glad you asked this today. DH and I are thinking of going to see the indians tomorrow to celebrate our anniversary (16 years today, how did I get that old???). We are trying to decide if it will be fun or a bummer. So far people are making it sound OK.

I go to Las Vegas once or twice a year. I love the slots! I don't drop a lot of money. Nor do I consider it money "lost". It's money that I am spending to have a lot of fun, and the money is gone just the same as if I spent it on show tickets or (gasp) a ticket to WDW! Once in a while I even win. The most I ever won was $950, then an hour later I hit for $250. I know that I am usually not going to win so I don't expect it or be disappointed when I don't. Like I said, it's money spent, not money lost to me.

I play the dollar slots most of the time...though I did win 500 at the nickle slots 2 years ago...but even with that you put in like 45 nickles on one pull of the slot for the max payout so even that gets expensive. To be honest I wouldn't even bother going with just 50.00 myself...thats like 5 minutes worth of play if you dont win!

After reading some other replies....

DH and I have went and only taken $100 each before and have had a fine time. There was one time that I played for a LONG time on just $20! I don't think you have to spend a bunch of money at the casino to have a good time.

We are going to Atlantic City for a night next weekend.. NO KIDS :cool1: :cool1: What will I do if I dont have to wake up at night to make bottles

The most I have hit was $500. My aunt went 2 months ago and hit $1100.

I love going but I am also addicted when I get there.. I tend to hit the ATM alot.

Hopefully I will win this time and not have to do that.

I used to go to the casino in Kansas City about once a month. I could tell five minutes after I entered the door whether or not I would be lucky that day. You either hit or you don't. In one year, I won about $25,000 on the slots. This was spread out over the entire year. My largest jackpot at any one time was $3000. One day, I hit three different jackpots of various amounts. On the other-hand, there were many times I walked in and had blown my allotted gambling amount within a half hour. Those are not the fun days.

Slot machines are the one thing I miss living in Central Florida. To play, I'd have to go to the coast.

My sister, BIL & brother used to gamble alot. They would hit big alot. 8,000 slots & hit 1,000+ on the card game "Let It Ride". But then again they thought nothing of dropping 500.00 when they went.
You have to play the dollar slots if you want to win big.

If you want to have lots of fun and try to win big go to a card game called "Let It Ride"....now that is FUN!
You need, I think 25.00 per hand (depends on the table) but you can "pull back" and still retain some $$$ on the hand.

Never thought I would do a table game in my life, but that one is pretty fun.

For some reason a 9 year old thread popped up at the top of the board after the board update, so here goes......

I know nobody else is actively monitoring this thread, but I thought I'd chime in anyways. I think these so called slots the OP mentioned aren't the class III "banked" games that most people think of with slots. They're probably class II linked bingo machines that have the trappings of real slots. Or I could be wrong if WV actually allows banked games instead of the pari-mutuel betting where the house can't lose.

I've played them before.

Feralpeg, I still think we could carpool to Tampa to the casino. If you're willing to drive to Kissimmee, I'm willing to drive to Tampa.

DH, DDs and I are all members of the Players Club at the Hard Rock Seminole casino in Tampa. We go more often when DH is home on a break from his consulting job in Washington (because he funds us!), but I've been know to go by myself from time to time. They offer mystery free plays every week, and the week after you go, they send you a "bounce back" free play, the amount of which is based on how much you played the week before (not how much you won or lost). We went twice over DH's break this time and his bounce backs were $100 and $80. Mine were $45 each time. We've each found a machine or two that seem to pay out pretty regularly, and on our second visit, DH won $800 on a 2-cent machine.

We also take only the amount of money we're willing to lose, and when it's gone, it's gone. We don't take ATM or credit cards with us. We also earn points on our cards based on how much we play, and we usually have a nice lunch with these points.

I LOVE slots!

Queen Colleen
