we just got home and i was unprepared for the overwhelming number of people who make a mess and just leave it for someone else to clean. obviously, this applies to everything (not just wdw - look at your local movie theater) ,but it was glaring this week. in the lobby of the wilderness lodge, seats on the boats, the ground after the parade was like a football stadium after the super bowl.

i know you'll all act as if you have never thrown your trash on the ground and assumed someone else would clean it for you; but, what makes us think we have the right to act this way? it is sad to me that people are this selfish and self-involved. even worse is that these people are teaching their children that they need not respect anyone else's property, either.

since this activity is so rampant, i feel the need to inform you: there are trash cans EVERYWHERE. if you bought it, and used it, please throw the remnant in the appropriate receptacle.

I totally agree, it is disgusting. It also happens at stores and such too. I work in a retail store and all day long I seem to be picking up trash from Guests all day long

Last weekend hubby and I were in philarmagic and people stepping over garbage to get their glasses. I picked it up and gave it to a cm( she was next to a garbage can) and I could not believe how people just pretend its not there. CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES!! Don't they get it , although I am sure non of them are disers.

I dont understand it, but I live with it. My DH is a bit of a litter-bug. Im always cleaning up after him. There is 1 odd exception. When we are out for fast food like Subway or Wendy's, if the dining area isnt packed (someone litterally waiting for our table, a common thing at our mall's food court), I WILL leave my tray right there on the table for someone who is paid to clear the table/ clean up to do their job. DH thinks I'm rude for not cleaning up, but in that case I disagree. He has no problem littering the parking lot, or sidewalk though

During our stay there I also couldn't believe how people were just leaving their trash on the ground either. One day at Epcot there was group of 4 that were sitting on a lightpole eating oranges and leaving the peels on the ground. They then proceeded to walk away. Come on now! Can you imagine what their house looks like? Seems to me to be just pure laziness!

I make a point of not leaving trash lying around ANYWHERE in WDW. It is such a beautiful place, if we all did our part, it would stay like that for a very long time.

if EVERYONE would do their part EVERYWHERE whether that is at WDW or Wendy's or a Movie theater...think about it - our prices would be lower. Lower prices for admission, lower prices for food, for everything. Some people never think about the extra personnel costs involved in hiring someone to do it for us. Even in the fast food restaurants...it takes 10 extra seconds to carry your stuff to the trash on your way out the door. And all these places that have been mentioned above seem to have plenty of trash cans available.

Why would you leave your tray? These people aren't paid to clean up after you. They are paid to wipe tables down, keep the floors clean and general cleaning. Most mall food courts have trash containers throughout them. Why wouldn't you do the nice thing and throw YOUR trash away? You probably have to walk by 2 or 3 trash containers when you leave the food court. I agree with your DH. It is rude. When you watch your child picking up adults trash, maybe you will realize how thoughtless you have been.

At our local pizza chain, someone is paid to clean the tables, clearing the trays, etc. If we did it, she would be out of a job! She's a local high school special needs student, and she loves her job.

I've been known to say "excuse me, you left your trash on the seat..." to others at WDW, to the embarrassment of my husband. My kids love it when I do it though!

I quess this is the wrong place to post this as it would be "Preaching to the choir" but I not only clean up after myself where ever I am but often find myself picking up other people's messes. The one thing that I found unbearable at many fast food restaurants were overstuffed and overflowing trash cans. This does not happen anywhere as often as it used to but still is a problem in many rest areas on our highways. Everytime I see trash just tossed on the ground all I can think of is that old anti-litering commercial with the Native American with a tear on his cheek looking over a polluted river.

This really annoys me - on my last visit (last December), I sat down on a bench in World Showcase (without looking), when I stood up my backside was covered in bright red sauce Next time I'm going to look before I sit.

You're right, that is how I act because it's true. I was brought up that littering is a sign of bad character.

Problem is that I no longer feel safe - well maybe in Disney but not elsewhere - berating a slob in public. I've had a few times that I've pointed out someone's lack of following basic courtesy and the response has been, not surprisingly, less than courteous. We used to live a few steps from a corner store in south Philly. People would come out, take their soda can or sandwhich or whatever out of a paper bag, and immediately toss the bag and wrappings over their shoulder. (Why not just say, "I don't need a bag?") Once or twice I've feared for my safety when the moron has taken serious offense.

I've heard a lot about how Walt himself would stop to pick up litter at DL no matter who he was with -- it could have been the President and Walt would have paused to grab the stray trash off the ground. Every since I read about that, I've tried to keep it in my mind. Just because someone else nearby may be paid to clean up after me, it doesn't mean I have to make that task as difficult as possible!

The trash at Fantasmic was horrendous!!

My DH was going to leave our trash where we sat. I saw some CM's coming our way with big trash bags and my kids quickly took our trash to them.
They asked how we liked the show and thanked us for picking up our trash.

Then as we were leaving I saw another CM headed toward some trash that was on the ground near me. I just picked it up and handed it to her.
She said that was not necessary she would have gotten it, but I told her I was walking right past it and straight to her.

She was very nice and gave me a Magical Moment card with Tinkerbell on it.

I said thanks and was beaming all the way out of that theatre! I got a card just for doing something I would have done anyway.

I totally agree...people pick up your trash.
