At one time having outside security cameras around your house was just for the wealthy, but in 2025, these cameras and systems are pretty affordable for everyone. The trend started with the doorbell camera and it grew from there. If you’re someone that doesn’t understand the benefits of these cameras, here ya go….

Most people I know today have outdoor security cameras on their home (especially the doorbell camera) and I’m surprised when people tell me they don’t have one. By us, we have many situations of people stealing deliveries off people’s front porches, so most people sadly feel these cameras are a must. My DD21 even has 2 at her apartment - one by the front door and one by her sliding glass door in the back - they’ve given her peace of mind knowing that she can see what’s going on at her apartment when she’s home, with us, during the summer. So, how about you? Let’s talk security cameras today……

Do you have security cameras outside of your home?
If yes….do you have a house or apartment?
How many do you have?
(multiple choice)

For Me…..We have 5 cameras around our house. Last August our cameras caught a woman enter our fenced in yard, open up our pool gate and go swimming in our pool during the afternoon when nobody was home. Needless to say, the police were called and she was removed from our property. Without those cameras, we wouldn’t have known about this, and we were able to watch the situation in real time when the police came, then the fire department came and then a tow truck had to come tow her car out of our driveway - lots going on when we weren’t home. Thank goodness my neighbor works close to home and was able to leave work briefly to oversee what was going on. I love having our multiple cameras.

I have doorbell camera but am looking into getting security cameras for around my house that way I can see exactly what wildlife is roaming my yard at night !! I’ve had several wild animals and want to stop playing guess the animal tracks

We have three security cameras but not a doorbell camera. Our house had a very fancy security camera setup which had indoor motion detectors and sensors on the windows. The former owners had installed it because they went to Florida during the winter. But we finally dismantled it when the cat kept setting it off. Now we just have the outdoor cameras.

We have 4, maybe 5. Started with just the ring on the doorbell, but then added the driveway, since we dont' have a line of sight to the driveway when we're downstairs (I don't know why this house was laid out that way, NO windows show our driveway at the garage door.) We had a hilarious one of a bird last week, pecking around.
We added one on the back patio, catch a lot of critters coming up on the deck that way. Mostly wanted to see what was digging the hole back there....armadillo.

We live out in the country on a farm. We have a Ring doorbell with camera but that’s all. At our property up north we have several trail cameras focused on the gate used to enter the property, on the two 5th wheel campers, the shed, etc. There have been times we have caught people we don’t know walking on the property, but thankfully no damage or theft. We keep everything locked up but sometimes that doesn’t stop people unfortunately.

No cameras for me. I'm on the list of people who sometimes forgets to lock the door. Cameras would only create permanent visuals of any mistakes or missteps I take around here. :)

No cameras at all. We thought about putting one over our garage pointing into our driveway. Last week someone came into our driveway and cut two of my long stemmed roses. No lie, walked up my driveway, with some sort of cutting device and cut the only two blooming long stems I have. I have an entire rose garden but only one bush with long stems and it only blooms once a year with maybe 4 stems blooming. I was waiting for just the right time to cut that particular one since two were on the stem and one hadn't bloomed out yet. We would have blamed it on the deer but with all the other buses blooming around it, including a small one with almost no thorns, and the fact that the place it was cut was down the stem and perfect across, no way a deer did it. They typically just get the buds on the small bush because they are tender and no thorns. This bush has thorns that are big and long. We are assuming it was while we were away at the grocery store since anyone from the neighborhood would no if hubby's truck isn't in the driveway there is a good chance we aren't home. If we had been home the dog would have barked since she throws a fit if she hears a cat burb 3 houses down. Anyway, no cameras here, plenty of nosy neighbors though.

I have two external cameras and about 5 cameras mounted by the windows with an external view. All are battery operated, but most of them are powered via USB cable.

I do not have any outdoor cameras. In talking to the police it appears none of my neighbors have them either. The utility pole across the street has been hit and run twice in the past year and the police have come around asking for video footage.

Hey... I got home the other day from work around 8pm and realized I had left the door wide open all day 🤦‍♂️. I don't have any cameras but maybe I should consider them....

We have a total of 6 cameras, but that's for 2 properties. We have Ring doorbell cameras and an internal camera at both houses, plus a garage camera (which came with the house) and a camera overlooking our dock at our lake house. The dock camera we just added this year, as we now have a boat we like to keep an eye on (especially when our boys are at the house without us - they're allowed to take the jet skis out, but not the boat).

I don't have any exterior cameras. I do have a few inside to spy on the dogs when I'm not home. We live in a very quiet area, so I'm not super worried, I'd more be interested to spy on the wildlife in the yard.

We have 6 cameras around our house and a security system. I agree, both are peace of mind for us but on the flip side.....I saw a documentary type program years ago. I remember they were filming criminals/interviewing them. Many of those criminals said home security systems and cameras weren't always a deterrent because when they see that there's a security system/cameras, they start thinking that there must be some good stuff in there. Regardless, I'd rather have one than not.

There are building security cameras on certain floors and all the elevators. Also around the exterior of the building. No ring camera(?) at my front door and I rarely use the legally mandated door bell. I know who is coming via the door staff.
