I would hazard a guess that here in Australia no houses built after 1980 would have shower curtains. Then again I would opine that the same would go for showers over baths. Both just aren’t a thing here in Australia.

My parents built a house in 1972 and its (separate) shower had a curtain until I was around 5 - so 1977 at that time it was changed to a glass door that had 3 panels. 1 fixed and the other 2 slid back.

My first home I ever bought was from 1962 and yep again the separate shower had a shower curtain that I hated every day of the 5yrs I lived with it.

We built in 1999 and both bathrooms had glass doors that opened outwards.

Renovated a house in 2007 and that shower had a sliding glass door.

Built our forever home in 2010 all 4 bathrooms have glass doored showers that open outwards.

In 2013 we built a pool house that has a shower with only a solid 3/4 tiled wall then an opening at the far end. It’s very long so you can actually stand at the opening end and not got wet.

I’m always amazed to see shower curtains and shower / bath combos on our trips to the US - they just are so very rarely seen here, basically only in unrenovated pre-1980 homes.

I'm particularly interested to read all your opinions and experiences on this one, because I see glass shower doors on all these house reno shows and I'm not really a fan!! They're a pain to keep clean and not exactly private!!! I know the bathroom's private anyway, I suppose I just like a different feel.

We have hinged and one on a runner - the runner one is especially frustrating.

I can see that glass can look smart and help with lightness and brightness in bathrooms. Still, my ideal is a tiled walk-in shower, with a full-height wall. ...You do need more space for one, I guess and, from the pictures I've looked at, the aesthetics vary a lot!!

2 bathrooms have curtains.
The master has neither. It is a walk-in shower.

Main bathroom has shower door. I don't like the door, hard to keep the track clean. The other 2 bathrooms have shower curtains. Those are much easier to maintain.
Modern ones don't have the bottom track at all. They're either swing-doors on pivot hinges or hung from the top like barn doors, now.

We have both. The main bathroom has a shower with a door and a separate garden tub. The two upstairs bathrooms have shower tub combos so they have a curtain. I don't really have a preference, I see the benefits in both. If you have a shower door on a tub/shower combo it is harder to keep clean but I think it keeps the water off the floor better. I always have a problem with shower curtains blowing (I'm guessing that would not happen if I didn't turn the vent on) and either letting the water out or sticking to me. I have had the two curtains in the past with the inner curtain that stays in the tub and the outer one that doesn't. That does seem to keep the water off the floor. We rarely use the ones upstairs so I don't really pay attention to it. What I would get rid of is the garden tub, put a smaller regular to even claw foot tub in that spot and then have a bigger shower. Of course, we have a hot tub in our basement, which makes the garden tub silly.

Well our house was built 5 yr ago and does not have the set up you describe. Others’ mileage may vary.

We have the hinged shower glass door in our master bath. The glass tends to steam up when using the shower if someone has privacy concerns. Might also see if they make them with frosted glass. Check the design for the lower part of the door. Our house is only a few years old and has a seal and bottom track/metal piece that is very effective in preventing water from running out onto the floor. Some designs I have seen there is a gap between the bottom edge of the glass and the lower surface which allows water to drip onto the floor.

Need to strike a balance between what look good vs the practical aspects of how it actually works when using the shower. Some appear to be designed without regard to how they will keep the water within the shower area.

We have a shower curtain. The best part is we have a curved rod so the curtain doesn't stick to us.

I grew up in a house with shower doors. They come off the track which is annoying and if you have hard water are difficult to keep sparkling. I have the type of cloth curtains you toss in the wash and hang up to dry. No liner needed. It’s great and you can change up the style quickly.
We redid our bath to a big shower with a bench seat. We have the shower doors and I love them.
I use a natural spray on the shower walls and the shower doors after every shower. It keeps them clean and sparkling. I don't even have to wipe them down:) I just use 1/2 cup Vinegar and 1 1/2 cup water in a spray bottle. I put in a few drops of scent, usually lemon or orange. We have very hard water but for some reason it isn't a problem with using the spray after every use. To clean the shower when I clean the bathroom, I use hot water and **** and Span and rinse it off.
I can understand not liking the doors, but I love mine.

Isn’t it sticking to you the worst?
