I have had two. One was burrowing into my left thigh, noticed it while in the shower. The other felt like a little bump on top of my head, my husband pulled that one out. I’m more used to them now, and we are more diligent in checking for them when we go camping.

I live in Georgia, I'm betting there are very few people here who have not pulled at least one off themselves or their pets. I've pulled 3 or 4 off me and brushed much more than that off. We've pulled a number off our dog, so many we actually have a device to do it so you can make sure to get the head. I actually pulled one off my leg last week. We were visiting hubby's parents in south Ga. They live on 10 acres with lots of woods and have 3 dogs. Where it was located makes me think it came off a dog while it was in my lap.

I've had a few as a child, always when visiting friends of my parents. They lived in a wooded area, and we kids would play in the woods. When we'd come back, they'd check us out. I remember having one stuck to my neck. My Mom would carefully pull the tick out with tweezers and then burn it in an ashtray with a match. She said it had to be burned, and only with a match. Old Wives' Tale, I guess. We had no concept of tick-borne illness back then and no concept of Lyme disease.

So...my horror story involving ticks. When I was a kid, we would go camping -- family and our dog. Well, our dog apparently brought home a pregnant tick. Did you know they lay between 3,000 and 6,000 eggs?

We had ticks EVERYWHERE. Do you remember those curtains with the little pom-pom balls? After they bombed our house, my mother was picking little tiny dead ticks out of everything, including those balls (1970's orange). It was an absolute nightmare.

I didn't realize I was traumatized until I was an adult and picked a tick off one of our dogs. Heart raced, near panic attack. DH didn't understand what was going on with me. OMG. It was horrible.

OMG I’m having a panic attack just reading this. Something else to worry about when I find one. 🤢

I HATE HATE HATE ticks. Bugs that burrow into your body and drink your blood should not be a thing. They belong in horror movies.

But in answer to your poll, yes, I’ve pulled plenty off myself, kids and dogs.

Maybe three or four, and I am in my 70’s.

However, one Son and his family have had years of struggle with health issues due to Lyme Disease issues. Very sad.

Here in good Ol central PA, there are ticks everywhere and my 2 little doodles seem to be a magnet to them. I think we find 2-3 a month during the warmer months.

No ticks on me. I guess this is officially my first tick talk. Now I know what the kids are talking about!! :jester:
