When the kids were young, we were tent campers.

Now that the kids are grown and gone (and I'm older!), I'm quite happy to stay in hotels.

Love, love, love it!!! Any kind of camping is awesome. I mostly tent/car camp, but I do love backpacking. My parents have a camper and I will go with them occasionally.
My dad and I did a 7 week US road trip a few years ago and we stayed in a hotel about once a week, car camped in tents the rest of the time. So much fun.

We are campers, we have a 35' fifth wheel. I don't really consider that camping but technically I guess it is. We camp all year round here in Georgia so no season.

When I was a teenager (in the 70s) my family only took camping vacations. Tents and sleeping bags for us kids, Mama and Daddy had cots. We had one big tent that was like two rooms, Mama and Daddy had one room and a couple of brothers and me the other. My two oldest brothers had little one man pup tents they would pitch beside our big one. Back then you could camp on any public land, we went on a big 2 month trip from New Mexico to southern Cal. up the coast past San Francisco and over to Nevada and back down. Camped the entire way, sometimes we would just pitch the tents in the dessert or on the beach. My Daddy worked for the State Highway in New Mexico we we would also camp in areas that most people either couldn't or didn't know existed.

When I was young I'd spend most of my summer living out of a tent. My grandparents had a nice piece of property on the water and I spent most of my summers with them -well, that and working with my grandfather 😰. But I loved it. Definitely got away from it as I got older, but I'm starting to get the itch again. Just got home from Moab last night and that got me thinking that it would be awesome to camp out there where there is no light ...just a billion stars! moab.jpg

We camped (glamped) once, back in 1986. Natalie was 6, Jeremy 9. We rented a 33 foot class C RV for a 10 day trip. Went from Chicago to the Smokies/Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. First night stayed in Kentucky state park. Then to the Smokies. Stayed at the Outdoor Resorts at Gatlinburg for a week. Then back through Illinois, one night at a KOA in central Illinois.

We had so much fun that vacation, so many laughs, so many new experiences. We still talk about it multiple times a year today. We consider it one of our very best family vacations ever.

However, we really are hotel people, nice hotels. But, that RV trip was superb.

When I think back about it, I don't know how we efficiently planned everything without the Internet. I do recall buying a VHS-C camcorder prior to the trip. $1,600, in 1986 dollars (just did an inflation adjusted calculation, $4,400 in 2023 dollars). Now, everyone of us has a much higher quality video recorder in all our phones. Amazing.

I have camped a few times—Girl Scout as a kid and tent as a young adult. I did not enjoy it much. I like the evenings around the fire and that’s it. So we got a fire pit for the backyard. It’s steps away from indoor plumbing and a comfy bed.

We own a cottage at a lake (super common in our city as we have 100,000 lakes in our province!) and so don't camp anymore.
I did grow up camping and did some in my 20s. Took our kids a few times when young.

I picked other. I would like to own one of those little Class B van campers and go camping that way, but it’s not in the budget right now. I would not enjoy tent camping or just sleeping in the open air. Too many bugs and other creepy crawlies! I need to have an enclosed space, preferably with a toilet and A/C.

Do you camp?
If yes….what do you camp in?

We camped for years in a tent, as a family. When I got old, I said "Mama doesn't get up off the ground in the (cold) mornings any longer. " That was shortly before my husband retired. So we started looking at RVs.

Took 3 years, but we finally settled on a smaller fifth wheel. We've traveled to Alaska/Yukon, Canadian maritimes, and across the US and back twice. Mostly in the late spring through the summer (up to 4 months was our longest to date). As well as short trips "locally" (within 300 miles).

My wife won't go below a Holiday Inn Express on a trip. She camped as a kid and decided she wasn't going to camp as an adult.
Me, last camping trip was my Sophomore year of College. We had "Winter Term" which was the month of January and you took one class for the month. Many were travel classes. Took a combination Marine Biology/Physical Education class where we camped on the beach in Hawaii for a month and went scuba diving twice a day.

We tent camped until kids. And then a handful of times for scouts. Now we own a travel trailer that we "camp" in. It is pretty much a tiny house on a lot and I would NOT consider it camping in most regards. But, it is getting away from the city for a bit, and wide open sky and lakes. So...camping.

Nope - I’m not a camper - I don’t like bugs, snakes, dirt, etc…I would consider a cabin but only if there’s a full bathroom and fridge…so I am tempted to try the newly announced DVC WL Cabins…but that may be too much ‘nature’ for me 😁

I camp. All four of our children are in scouts, so we camp frequently. While tents are nice, I prefer my Dutchware hammock. In the summer here in the south I'll stick with our AC cooled pop-up trailer.

According to DH, I like to camp at the Wilderness Lodge.

We went tent camping a few times with other families when the kids were little, glad we did it when we were younger.

Camping to me is the ice machine on my floor isn't working and neither is the TV remote in the room.
Neither DH or I camped as children and have had no urge as an Adult.

I only went camping way back when in scouting. It was mostly two night (Friday and Saturday) tent camping in all kinds of weather.

One time another boy had to leave early due to frostbite. Some trips it rained the whole time. Once the floor of the tent had water under it and acted like a waterbed!

I also went twice to two week summer camps. It was also in tents but they were on wooden platforms. There the food was the bigger challenge!
