I like rice.
I hate cilantro.
It tastes like stink bugs smell and my sister always thought I was weird for saying that until I googled it and in fact stink bugs and cilantro contain aldehyde.
I’m not a huge rice person, but when I make it it’s in my giant rice cooker, never minute or packaged, I don’t like that. I’ve made cilantro rice with Mexican, the cilantro goes in after it’s cooked, fresh lime juice during cooking.
I like it and buy it occasionally. I don't make it here at home as cilantro tastes like soap to my daughter and I don't want to make 2 sides (even if it IS all just rice).
I'm sure I've had it in a mexican restaurant, but I've never made it at home. I like cilantro, but don't like it to be too strong, which usually it's not.
I'm sure a lot of people already know this, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Cilantro only tastes like soap to a certain percentage of the population. From health.com:
'However, while cilantro offers a refreshing citrusy taste for most people, research shows up to 14% of the population find the herb tastes like soap. People who have the olfactory receptor gene OR6A2 are more likely to dislike cilantro and experience a soapy taste when biting into the herb.'
I'm not one of the 14% so I enjoy cilantro, but have never had cilantro rice. It's not really on my radar but I would eat it if it was served to me.
Never heard of it. My wife is one of those people that cilantro tastes like soap so she avoids anything with it.
And as a diabetic, rice is something I avoid.
I don't buy pre-cooked or quick cooking rice in a box or bag. I do cook brown rice at home for certain dishes. Never heard of cilantro rice and don't think it is something I would make at home.
Thankfully, I am in the large percentile in which cilantro does NOT taste like soap.
Dd and I love cilantro lime rice! Our love first came about because of Chipotle.
I do make it at home and use a copycat recipe. EASY!! It definitely isn't exactly the same as Chipotle, but we both really enjoy it. I have made it with Jasmine and Basmati rice and both work equally well. (fwiw, I half the recipe for my family of 3) https://www.culinaryhill.com/chipotle-cilantro-lime-rice/
Cilantro rice could not be easier to make from scratch. It’s just rice (regular long grain or jasmine/basmati) cooked in chicken broth. When it’s done you add in lime, salt and cilantro to taste. It’s a light alternative to Mexican rice.
I make restaurant-style bowls a lot and cilantro rice is usually the base I use for the veggies and protein.
