For Me…..I am not at the race this year, but I have gone in the past (I’ve been to 3 races). My DH is there now for his 41st race - he’s been going every year since he was a boy. I won’t watch the race live because I have a million things to do outside today, but I will watch it when DH comes home (he likes to rewatch the race to see things he couldn’t see when he was there - he fast forwards a lot so it‘s like the cliff notes version of the race, which is fine by me - LOL!)

I used to watch it every year for a period of time through the late 80’s/early 90’s.
We used to watch all of the big races on tv. The Molson Indy was big around here during that time frame. But now, I haven’t watched it in years.

In the 60's, I even went to a pay-for-view at a local theater. I guess that was when I knew the names...Foyt, Andretti, Gurney, Ward, etc. I'll probably see the highlights on the news.

Now I much prefer the 4 second races of NHRA Drag Racing.

Not my thing. My Dad used to watch the races when I was a kid and I thought it was mind-numbing watching a bunch of guys in cars drive around and around.

Have attended in person several times over the years. For anyone who has only seen it on TV, you can't really get a sense of how LARGE the track is unless you see it in person. There isn't anywhere you can sit to see the entire track. The cars at full speed are going so fast you can barely see them go by. Think it would actually be a better race to watch at a slower speed be either decreasing horsepower, displacement, etc.

Have zero interest in the road courses (too little racing, few passing opportunities) but still enjoy the oval tracks. Too bad the series had that dispute between various factions a number of years ago that cost them a lot of sponsors/fans over the years. Seems no one came out ahead and now fewer fans have returned. Indycar also doesn't have a race every week during the season, so unless you actually follow the sport, it is easy to lose interest and watch some other sports.

Brothers watch. No one in this household watches.

Not even sure what they are racing are cars.
They’re more accurate in name than Nascar as Indy Cars are specific types of vehicles made for USAC Open Wheel Vehicle division. The Indy part of course comes from the popularity of todays race.

I used to love stock car racing, in the early 1960's when they WERE racing stock cars with roll cages welded in. Not safe, but fun.

I've never been to one that big, but I remember going to some smaller races with my dad when I was young. I don't generally watch sports on TV, though.

The current generation of 'cars' are really more spec racing vehicles with the chassis (carbon-fiber tub) & engines made by only a few companies. While the theory is to keep down the cost of racing to allow more low budget teams to participate, it still takes a LOT of sponsorship $$$ to field a car. NASCAR used to be modified passenger cars but not anymore. Now they are all tubular steel frames covered in fiberglass panels to at least resemble the passenger car they are designed after. I doubt there are any parts on the typical NASCAR that can actually be found on a production vehicle.

Yeah it’s probably been since that era that anything about Nascar has been stock. I grew up around the heart of Nascar country so I love and respect it but the stock part of that name has been incorrect for a long long time now.
