I was in the gym locker room on Saturday, and I see this young lady taking off something that looked like compression socks. So I asked her if they were and she said they yes. She said she’s a nurse and even though she’s only 26 years old, they really help her when she’s on her feet for a twelve hour shift. She then told me that she wears them anytime she flies to prevent a blood clot. I found this interesting so I went home and looked it up and this is what I found…..

I found this all very interesting and I wish I would have talked this young lady when I was still custom picture framing - I was on my feet every day for 8-12 hours and more over the Christmas season. So now I’m going to ask you, like I asked the young lady at the gym……

Do you wear compression socks?
If yes…..which key group(s) are you in? (explained above)
If yes…..how often do you wear them?
(multiple choice)

*No OTHER today - I’m only allowed 10 poll choices
Please vote for whichever poll choice(s) are closest to how you are.
If you are an OTHER, please post what your OTHER is.

*If you have compression socks that you would recommend to others, please post information about them. That information could really help someone. - thank you!

For Me……I currently do not wear them. I 100% believe that God brings people into your life for a reason, there’s no coincidences, and I believe that God put that young nurse in the locker room the same time as me, to tell me about these compression socks. I’ve been concerned about lymphatic issues in my legs for awhile (a few years) and I’ve talked to the nurse practitioners at my GP and they brush it off. My Rheumatologist, at The University of Chicago, brushes nothing off and when I see him next, I’m going to discuss this with him and show him my legs. I’m going to order some compression socks to wear to work (I do a lot of sitting there) and then also for when I fly (especially when we go to Hawaii next year). I’m really grateful to that young lady for taking the time to talk to me - I bet she’s a great nurse wherever she works.

I do not wear compression socks. They just seem to me like they would be super uncomfortable, and so far I don't have a medical need for them.

My Dad is supposed to wear one on his left leg because he's had problems with fluid in the past. He is "semi-good" about it (at least when I'm there and he knows I'm paying attention. 😆 )

I have worn them when I had my spinal surgeries they are not fun to put on and they’re a little weird to get used to but they do serve a very good purpose
I got a feeling I will be needing them in the near future because I am having some issues I should say ongoing issues
Definitely a good idea to wear them when you’re flying

I wear compression socks every day that I work. I work on a concrete floor in a food pantry. I thought I was having bad rashes on my legs. When I went to the dermatologist, she said it wasn't a rash but a side effect of walking on concrete at work all day and to get compression socks. Once I began to wear them, the issue resolved and my legs/feet feel better.

I don't fall into any of the categories that suggest their use. But I will definitely wear them if I end up needing them.

I use Viasox (mail order) when traveling. They are a nice brand, lots of colors and much easier to put on than many other compression socks.

I wear them every day. Suggested by cardiologist for my various heart issues and to keep fluid from settling in lower legs. They don't bother me at all. Have worn for 10 or more years. I have black, brown and a few white ones.

Im literally wearing one right now… you can definitely feel the impact and relief. I’m on my feet working for at least 4-5 hrs…

I voted that I don't wear them, but I did have them for a short stint years ago after I had a blood clot, but that was maybe 20 years or so ago.

So, a few little things here...

I answered yes, but that's because compression socks aren't limited to the ones that reach up to your calf. I wear no-show running socks that barely peak out above my ankles, but like many running socks, they have compression features in them to help compress your feet during running, walking, etc.

Now, I haven't reached for them in a while, but rather than a sock a lot of athletes opt for their compression in standalone garments. I have several pairs of compression sleeves that fit from ankle to knee if I want compression while wearing shorts. You may also notice that lots of athletic leggings advertise compression, meaning that the compressive features are built into your pants.

I had a deep vein thrombosis in my left leg 20 years ago. Now, when I am on my feet a fair bit my left calf swells some. It doesn't hurt and doesn't cause issues but I wear one on my left leg most days.

Interesting thread and timely. I'm leaving for London on Wednesday on a direct flight that will take about 7 hours. I haven't taken such a long one for years - I'm a weirdo that purposely books flights with connections so I can get off and stretch periodically. I once did have a monster swelling in one foot when flying back from Hawaii (turned out not to be thrombosis) so it's worth thinking about seeing if Amazon could deliver some compression socks today. :scratchin Not really the fashion statement I prefer to make, but oh well...

I do not wear them but have family members that do. Not sure if it is every day or just on flights snd certain other things.

I wear them after long runs, races, and on flights.

I also have compression tights that I will wear after long runs and longer races.

We have our London flight coming up soon, and I ordered some compression socks...idk where they are though, haha, so I need to find them asap. I've never worn compression socks before, and hope they'll be comfortable. My MIL gave me a pair she'd never used, and they were way too tight, so I hope it was just sizing, and I need a bigger size.
