I bought it once as part of a "trying new foods" project with the kids I was babysitting, but I didn't really like it so I've never bought it again (unless it was as an ingredient in a juice blend or something.) I agree about seeing them more in stores lately, though.

Also known as Pitaya. I grow one that I bought at Disney in 2012 at The Land Pavilion in one of those little Mickey’s mini gardens. (Do they still sell those?) I don’t much care for it. Like all jungle cactuses, it’s large and unruly. It’s prickly and difficult to handle and it’s never flowered or fruited for me, probably because I neglect it and don’t give it enough water, fertilizer, or space to grow. It used to be quite large, about three feet in diameter, but after we moved I decided I didn’t want to deal with its size (and spines) anymore so I hacked it back to a small 4” pot’s worth. Now it just sits on the windowsill being an ugly houseplant. I’ve got a handful of other jungle cactuses that I do like, so I keep thinking “Maybe this will be the year I start treating the dragon fruit better…” But, meh, maybe next year.

I don’t eat the fruit often. The ones in the grocery store are usually underripe and flavorless so I usually only have them while traveling somewhere where they are grown locally and actually have flavor. Even then, it’s still just a mild sweetness and nothing to write home about.

I eat dragon fruit a lot.

The best preparation is to make a fruit salad with 1/2 chopped dragon fruit and 1/2 fresh blueberries, sprinkled to taste with powdered ginger and raw sugar. It makes a perfect fruit salad for Asian dishes.

I have had a dragonfruit flavored vodka and rum and enjoy it.

I would buy it the fruit if I saw it and it was not crazy expensive, but just not something I run across very often and I dont usually do the shopping.

Yes, it is good in a fruit salad with some things to enhance the flavor.

I have had it, both at restaurants and via my daughter, and liked it. My daughter likes golden dragon fruit even better. A local produce store often has the red exterior one for sale. I haven’t seen the yellow/gold one for sale, but my daughter has told me to keep an eye out for it.

I like dragon fruit, and I really like the nutritional boost it gives (high in fiber, vitamin C, and surprisingly high in iron for a fruit... and the vitamin C makes its iron more easily absorbed.) But it's really expensive, and what they sell in most grocery stores is harvested before it's ripe and then it ends up being kind of bland. I still like it, though.

I've had it once by itself, bought one when they (rarely) have them at the grocery store. I've also had it in that Starbucks Dragon Drink once.

It's funny how such a dramatic eye-catching fruit can have so little flavor. Very very bland.

I don't eat the fruit, but I find that the flavoring can enhance certain dishes; I'd guess it's probably made by boiling down the juice into a syrup, which would concentrate the flavor.

It also smells rather nice; my DD has been using a dragonfruit-scented body wash for years.

I have never tried it. Don't think they sell it here in the local Supermarkets.

I've bought it a few times, DGD likes it, no one else cares for it.
