I don't make it my business to try and 'educate' people on the internet. I just avoid the ones that aren't. When the tragedy with Laken Riley occurred, and people on the controversial forum actually chose to laugh about it, I decided it was not for me.

I was on when it first opened, and had high hopes for it, but quickly decided it wasn't for me. To many vile, attacking and hateful comments on there. And I'm someone that was on The Dis when the Debate Board existed!!!

The Controversial Topics Board is the Spirit Airlines of the DIS. Sometimes it is amusing to watch the Spirit Youtube fights and arguments, but mostly it leaves you depressed about the state of your fellow man. Every once in a while you might think it wise to get one of those cheap flights, but then reason and logic win out. You realize that it is best for everyone that those folks have their own airline, and it is one that most people would be embarrassed to be involved with.

And just to be clear I am not saying I haven’t been caught up in an internet debate or two, the Covid response threads here were fun!

But it does have draw backs.

I gained a stalker or two for some period of time from this message board.

A woman took the time to find what she thought was my phone number and called and left a hateful message. It was actually my wife’s phone though.

And I got a PM once saying that I was being discussed on another Disney themed board.

The moral of the story is to be careful because there are some true psychopaths out there in Disney World/Land.

This happened to me a few times over the years here and one was from the CT board!!

I have seen the Debate Board mentioned before. Somehow I never went there, must have missed it as I have been a member a few more years than you. Although I got on the DIS for the cruise line forum, then found the Community, Budget and Disney for Seniors forums.

It was quite the forum. A lot of the topics discussed were mostly Disney related and they could get pretty heated. The one thread about booking Cinderella's Breakfast in the castle, ways to cheat the system to get them, really went off the rails!!!

This is actually my second Dis name. I've been on since 2001. Got banned in 2005 and took a year off before returning.

Shocking I know. Ya and they knew who I was as I didn't try and hide my old user name. Got a few DM's from some of the Mods and none of them could remember why I was banned. What I said back then wouldn't even make someone look twice today!!!

That thread was a classic, Steve. I think it was an often debated topic, many threads. There was a guy on the Net who made reservations and sold them if I recall.

There were a good number of folks like that back then. One of my best, long time buddies from here, @snoopy (Judi) was banned for almost nothing, then, and certainly now.

Yeah, sometimes facts can drive a thread off the rails. I know more than one thread on the Cruise Line Forum got heated every time someone mentioned taking a child out of school for a vacation. The fact that doing so in some states if truancy always riled some people up. Especially as some of their hacks around having their child being listed as truant got shutdown by states.

I am, and always have been TVGUY. Although I was nobody the first two years or so that I lurked before joining. It always appeared to me that some people had more than one account at the same time. Writing style being a tip off.
