I never write checks. All my monthly bills are on autopay. Other bills are paid online either on their website or via Chase bill pay.

We recently had to order checks, and figured it had been over 10 years since the last time we ordered.
I'm still working through the first box of checks I ever got, back in college (so at least 17 years). They still have my dad's name and my parents' address on them.

It actually came in handy last week when my dad went to the oil company to see about paying my bill because I never found the one they usually leave when they deliver and I never got the one in the mail after I called to let them know I couldn't find the first one. He could legitimately write a check from my account. My oil company is still in the dark ages - they don't have a website or even an email address to contact them.

I'm surprised by the number of people still using checks. However, I'm glad many are just using checks for bills, and not at the checkout aisle, where we're all in line watching, waiting.

Edit: Seriously, once the check is written, please just hand it over, and move along. Don't start doing your finances right there, when the transaction is completed. Please don't pull out the photos of the kids and grandkids. Please don't break out a slide projector and show us your Yosemite trip photos. Please don't take the time to cross stitch a "thank you" sign for the cashier.

We've pretty much gone paper less for bills. We do still have checks on hand though. I remember my early college days of needing to take time to balance my checkbook properly. An important skill for all to learn early for sure along with budgeting in general. Grandma, growing up, dad does now, did a wonderful job of keeping her register updated.

When I worked at Macy's (10+ years ago) we didn't even need the check filled out. We'd put it through the register and the customer signed on the screen. We'd return the check to them with the receipt.
