When we go on a cruise, we leave our cell phones off for the week, and usually don't even take a tablet. So only one day would be easy. Unfortunately, some cruise lines now are basically making a smart phone a necessity to see the daily activities, or even the menu in the restaurants. Three cheers to Carnival, who I have never sailed on, for last week going back to paper everything on their ships.
For work need the cellphone for authentication and laptop to do the work on.
I use the iPad to check e-mail and go on message boards. And during the week after work watch tv.
Lol! I completely get it though. Even though your dd is an adult, she’s still in that phase of transition. Dh — he’s a grown man. You don’t worry the same way.
And to be fair, mine was out of country until this afternoon so texting was the only form of communication.
For a day of vacation or even just a random weekend day, I could probably do it. I spent 7 hours at a soccer field refereeing games last Sunday without looking at my phone once. Was just too busy to bother with it.
Just to clarify, are we talking about disconnecting from the internet and phone lines or does this include tv, radio, etc. as well? I love to read and could spend a day doing just that. However, if I could use my computer locally to write without connecting to the outside world, I would like that as well.
My cell is off as often as I can manage it (from 6pm to when I wake up, and all day Sunday) and I have a 50gb limit monthly for internet, so I am not online all day. I think it would be difficult for my sister, as she has her phone and tablet on all the time (phone all night too) and she is much more connected to social media than I am.
I didn't even know this was a thing, but I could do it. I'd set up a jigsaw puzzle and read. I could sit with a crochet project. I would have to leave my phone on in case someone needs me because we don't have a landline, but it rarely goes off anyway-I could tell my sister and everyone else that I'm phone free for a day and they'd respect that.
As I always say, the infatuation that people have with their phones I will never understand.
My phone comes off the charger at 6 am and goes back on at 11 pm on average. Most of the time if you'd check, the stat will tell you screen usage time since last charge is in minutes, usually less than 10.
I used it today because I use Waze as I was traveling to my daughter. Then she wants to listen to Spotify, so I can't count that. We were communicating a lot since I was heading up to get her at school. I've been on the computer about half an hour now, first time for the day and I'm pretty much done after I close this thread.
I don't have a tablet that works. I don't have cable TV. Ironically, I did not know I was suppose to "unplug" today because I hardly ever use anything to be able to hear of this silly "event".
I wanted to check my phone usage with the battery stats just now, but because it is connected in the car, it was charging less than an hour ago when I drove home from dropping her off.
I wouldn't count listening to music in the car. We've been listening to radio in cars for a 100 years. Spotify is merely just another source like any other source such as thumbdrive or going back in time to CD's or even cassettes.
Oh, and for one of your selectables in the poll, "No one can say they don’t use devices, because you’re reading this on a device - LOL!"
If I would have waited an hour, I could have selected this because it would be tomorrow when I voted. If it was an hour from now, the only thing I would have used any tech for was as a necessary communication device as even though Spotify I deemed as no different than listening to the radio, that was my daughter's doing and not mine.
Because if it was me using it, I certainly would not have been listening to Taylor Stinkin Swift for an hour and a half
It would be so hard for me to completely unplug for a day... I use a desktop at work, so that would be the first thing I would be able to dispose of.
I depend on my phone and smartwatch, a lot. The laptop is pretty much my recreational device. We have a couple iPads here, but I just cannot seem to be a good tablet user. I want the physical keyboard of a laptop, or just use my phone and mess with a seemingly "in between" device. I could definitely see if somebody used a tablet as a reading device how they would come in handy, but for surfing etc. it just doesn't work well for me.
