Happy Groundhog Day Everyone!
Let‘s keep our fingers crossed that the groundhog does not see his shadow so winter can be over.

On the topic of Groundhog Day…..

Have you ever seen a groundhog in the wild (as in, not at a zoo or another animal place)?
Have you had one in your yard?
(multiple choice)

*sidenote poll question - what‘s your hope for Groundhog Day?

For Me…..Two years ago we had a big groundhog living under our shed. We had no idea until he came on the front porch and our Ring camera captured it (picture below ⬇️). We live next to a forest and this was the first and only time in 20 years that we’ve had a groundhog. After we saw the video (which was late winter) my DH noticed the tunnel under the fence and then under the shed. He was not with us very long. One day my DH came home and said he saw what looked like a dead groundhog in the busy street a block away. We’re assuming it was him, because we never saw him again. We put a little bit of sand in the tunnel to look for tracks coming in and out and saw nothing. Kinda sad - I would have liked to see him again.

I think groundhogs are adorable! One year we had a mama and babies under our shed:

Part of me wants an early spring, but part of me doesn't want allergy season to start early. - Mainly, I just want more daylight, and that isn't going to change either way. 😆

Never seen one. We don't have them here.
I want "winter" to continue since we have been in the upper 70's and 80 this week. I want more cooler weather before we get blasted with the summer heat
I can respect this - I‘d probably think the same way if I lived by you. ::yes::

Cuteness overload

Never saw one as a kid. Seems we often have at least one roaming the backyard. Maybe living under shed.

Some years ago, we were driving middle of PA through a road construction area. You know the cattle chutes type areas???? A poor ground hog ended up on the inside of the barrier. Too tall to climb over , I guess, but he was running his little legs off going along as cars streamed by. Does that count as in the wild?

It does to me ::yes::
Poor little guy - I hope he made it to safety.

Just watched the ceremony on YouTube and it was so cute!

If you missed it:

(There is a lot of lead-up, but you can fast-forward to about 1:44 if you want to jump straight to the prediction part.)

Just googled it groundhogs and wood woodchucks are the same thing

Yes we have one roaming our area he’s the size of a Buick
I’ve seen plenty of them in my day because I’ve always been surrounded by woods
Praying for no more winner!!!
Literally….made me LOL! :rotfl:

I've seen prairie dogs in Colorado, but they are not the same species as groundhogs. I've seen a lot of critters in our yard, but no groundhogs.

I don't think a groundhog can predict the weather. But I do enjoy the speculation. :)
