I love a good glass of German Reisling! ::yes::

My husband and I enjoy a bottle with dinner once (sometimes twice) a month. I also enjoy sparkling (Prosecco usually as champagne is $$) from time to time.

I will also get it when I am out to dinner, but I typically don't as of late as they usually have Chateau St Michelle or Dr L, which I enjoy both, but they charge for one glass what I can buy for one bottle. I'd rather enjoy a cocktail I don't make at home then. :drinking1

I drink wine- a few times a year.
I think I pour down the drain as much as I drink. I will open a bottle and then months later see the bottle on the counter, realize it's been there forever and decide it couldn't possibly be any good, LOL!

The man and I used to buy a few cases of wines for entertaining friends, ourselves, and cooking, annually. Less expensive that way.

Our inventory needs have changed in recent years to encapsulate my wants only. I drink an average of 3 glasses weekly so I don’t need to reorder anytime soon. The wines I use for cooking get ordered more frequently.

I enjoy an occasional glass or two of wine. Have it more often in a restaurant than at home. I love Sangria the most. Also Riesling.

My husband was a wine maker back in the 80’s. We still have several bottles. I especially love the raspberry wine, so sweet and delicious.

Beer or cocktails for me, just not interested in wine.

We usually have a combination of options in the house. Wine being one of them. My husband and I both prefer sweeter wines-so nothing very fancy or expensive. Usually a glass or two a week

I don’t drink wine. I don’t even like champagne. I also hate when restaurant servers act like I’m some uncultured swine for passing on their expert wine pairings. I do like some beers and cocktails, but no wine.

Well, we live close to two great wine growing regions, Lodi and Napa. We went wine tasting in Lodi last week. Also went out to lunch last week and had a glass of wine with lunch. Before retiring we would have a glass of wine on Friday and Saturday nights. We figured our wine consumption would increase in retirement, but we just plain forget about having a glass of wine in the evening. But a couple of my Doctors have commented that even at two glasses a week, we are almost non-drinkers by their estimation. We have come a long ways from our parents generation where it was normal for them to have a drink, usually hard liquor, every night after work. Or in my wife's mother's house, 3 or 4 !

DH is definitely a wine drinker. Me? Maybe with a holiday dinner, but that's it. So I did select that I drink wine, but only a couple of times a year.

I rarely drink wine. I'm not a huge fan. I Like a sweet wine but the only one I know will be sweet is Moscato so that's what I will drink if it is available. I like sangria occasionally too. My family are all fans of dry wines so I rarely drink it at family gatherings.

I’ll occasionally have a glass when I’m having dinner in a restaurant. Rarely at home, mostly only on holidays or if we have friends or family over (guests will sometimes bring a bottle).

I have a glass with my aunt on Thanksgiving. All wine tastes the same to me; I have no idea what people are talking about when they compare wines for bouquet or whatever. I've had the expensive stuff and I've had the stuff that comes out of a box. I see no difference.

I rarely drink anyway, and when I do have one or two it's more likely to be a beer. I don't really like the taste of distilled alcohol. If I do drink one anyway it has to be something of the fruity, cocktail umbrella type.

My sister and I like to taste it and say "tastes like wine". I can tell sweet vs. dry and there are definitely some wines I have not liked, but I largely can't tell the difference.

I enjoy red wine only. And since I seem to always be training for something, currently WDW 1/2 marathon, I will only have a glass on Fridays when I have 2 non running days. Being almost 50 😖, my small glass will make me sluggish the next day. And long runs are hard enough with out having elephant feeling legs 🤪

Good luck and have fun!
I’ve done 2 half marathons and Disney was always one I wanted to do, but my knees and ankle will not allow it.

There really is no "right" wine to drink with a meal. If you like cabernet and enjoy it with a seafood dish -that's perfectly fine. That being said -there are certain wines that generally pair better with specific types of food. So, a crisp, slightly acidic white(I'd go with Gruner Veltliner) is great with seafood. For instance, if you were eating dessert a sweeter wine pairs well with it because your sense of taste has already focused on the dessert -making the sweetness of the wine less intense(balance). That same wine with a steak would taste sicky sweet to most people(unbalanced), so you pair it with a red that has components of dark fruit, "leather", etc.

I drink a fair amount of wine -although not as much as I used to and passed my Level 1 certification so have a fairly strong understanding of the concepts and science behind it. I tend to prefer Reds(Cabernet, Pinot), but love whites as well(Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand, a Dry Reisling).

Understanding it can all be very confusing and with holidays coming up -I'd suggest people go to a local wine shop and have them help choose a couple bottles. Life is too short to drink bad wine!
This is a great post - thank you for this.
At Food and Wine today, I’ll raise a glass(or two) to you @slo - I would say don’t let not knowing about wine be a barrier from enjoying it. We have a local SMB wine boutique store nearby - we started going to their tastings for similar reasons to just enjoy wine and learn about it. Have to start somewhere - wine is all about your personal tastes - explore and have fun with discovering that next best glass!
Thanks John and have so much fun!!
