SLLLLLOOOOW Moving Tourists?

I'm not a "fast walker." I walk through the parks at a nice, leasurely, relaxed pace.

But I'm 6'4" tall. My legs are longer than most peoples' whole bodies; when I walk at a relaxed pace, I'm still going faster than most people. To go the same speed at most people, I have to shuffle along with baby steps or take a step... wait... take another step... wait...

When I pass somebody, I do it politely. I won't barge past somebody, I won't bump into somebody, I won't break through people holding hands (unless they are coming right at me stretched across the entire walkway, then I have no choice).

I love this thread! It's exactly how my family feels!! We have very long legs and have been to the world more times than we can count..when we go, we know where we want to go and we move pretty fast. We can hit all 4 parks in a day and please everyone in the fam, although we usually don't do AK. Anways, we usually know the side walkways, were not many people walk, also walk through some of the stores if there are a gazillion people walking so low that they're standing. It's very frustrating to me!! Especially when people stop, open up their big map and just block the sidewalk. Move to a bench or the side...grrrrr :furious:.

try grocery shopping here during "Season" - it's a nightmare! Too bad all grocery stores aren't set up the same way!

I'm always amazed when people just stop at the end of the escalator. Just stand there. One time there were a couple of women with several children who just stopped at the foot of the down escalator in The Land. I said out loud, please move so I don't run into your children (as I was the next person on the escalator). And, boy, did they blast me!!! Told me to chill, they had children with them so they couldn't move any faster. I was really taken aback by their reaction. I just didn't want anybody to get hurt and we were headed for a pile up.

Okay, new item on packing list...

Slow moving vehicle sign!

Seriously, I don't walk that fast and I try to edge myself out of the flow of traffic if need be. But I have two small kids and they aren't always on the same page as me. Plus it will be our first trip to WDW so I am sure we will make more than a few fast walkers angry. I apologize in advance!

I'm a slow walker and can't help it, but I do try to be mindful of my surroundings. I don't shuffle along or anything, but if I see a crowd that wants to get somewhere fast, I'll walk off to the side. What gets me, though, is when I get behind people who are even slower than me, and I wait patiently to go around them, only to be cut off by someone who's impatient and doesn't feel he/she has to wait their turn. :sad2:

Another thing too, and it's like being in traffic. Someone will rudely push by because I'm walking too slow, and in just a few seconds, I'll have caught up to them where they're stopped.

My sister and I have a code word for the slow walkers. We call them "doodleooot"s. Like that's the music that's running through their heads as they slowly plod along and stop right in front of you to scratch their heads.

Doodleootle-doot.

YES! i can hear the song (not sure if it is the same one you are referring to)
with the dopey vulture thing singing....

"Im bringing home a baby bumble bee,
wont' my mommy be so proud of me,
I'm bringing home a baby bumble bee,
Ouch! It stung me! "

that is what is playing in my head when i am behind the "doodleooot" people! :lmao:

DH and i usually stroll- but look out if i need to get somewhere--- i will run right over you!

if i get behind a "doodleooot" i tell DH "i am putting my blinker on" and to follow my lead! :rotfl:

ThunderMTexpert - I'm you! I realize people have various reasons for walking slow. That is fine. What I hate is when people are walking slow 4-5 people across so that those of us who walk a little faster don't really have the room to walk around them. Especially when the slow walkers act as though they are offended that you walked around them. This is not just at MK, anywhere. I know that when my kids are walking slow, we try to move as far to the right as possible and I try to take a quick peek behind me so we don't stop suddenly in front of anyone else. I just feel like these things are a part of being polite.

I'm with you, too! It's those groups of people who block a whole side of the pathway that I become irritated with. Why do they have to walk four or five people across?

:thumbsup2 Oh, my family is so with the fast walkers, we just like to keep moving. My dh is always telling the kids to remember there are other people around them and to move aside if we need to stop(one of his big peeves).

stopgo: that was soo funny, especially the one about the backpack. My dd got knocked over by a hunchback a few years back.

My other slow moving problem is when parents let their kids practice walking in huge over crowded places. We have taken 5 kids all over the place, and when they need to stretch their legs, we find a place where they can do it without slowing up the general flow of traffic.
