I discovered a splinter in my fingernail. Now, this splinter is thru the nail, right in the middle of it. The thing is I didnt even feel it when I got it. Just noticed my finger mildly sensitive. Since then it has become somewhat more painful.

Any idea's how to remove it. It thought there used to be an ointment to draw splinters out. Anyone know the name of it or any other suggestions.

I don't relish the thought of having the fingernail removed!

Ouch! This reminds me of when it happened to me. I got a splinter under my thumbnail a few years ago. I had to go to the doc to have it removed. (Cringing just thinking about this).

She first used a GRINDER (like a sander for cars) on my nail. Ouch, ouch, ouch. It was awful.

That didn't work, so she stuck me with some Novacaine and proceeded to cut my nail off with some kind of electric blade thingie.

After all this (and I swear it was almost as terrible as childbirth) - a friend told me soaking the nail in Epsom salts works too. I suggest you try that first.;)

Good luck - I've been there.:D

OUCH!!!! ''Drawing Salve'', I think it is called. I am not sure what brand it is though and I haven't seen it for years (not sure if they still make it). I would try the epsom salts and triple antibiotic ointment with a bandaid. If it gets worse or won't work it's way out in the next few days, I would see the doctor.

thanks for the replys. I have started soaking it & applied antibacterial ointment. I tried to find the "drawing ointment" ( i think it was called black ???something) on a previous splinter episode but I couldnt find it then.

I've have had my toenail removed once & hope to avoid this avenue.

Thanks again. I know I can always come here when I have one of these problems. Last time was my smelly dog (i know disgusting) which turned out to be a skin infection.
