Slightly OT - Ponderosa question

I couldn't really figure out under which topic to place this question, so please forgive me as it's not a "Disney Restaurant".
Last Dec/Jan they were apparently in the process of changing all the area Ponderosas to basically salad bars. We're heading back down to WDW in a few weeks and I was wondering if this has taken place or not? I know the management at the one restaurant we were at during Xmas was getting an earful from customers complaining about this change. Hopefully they did not fully go thru with it as it is one of our favourite places to eat outside WDW.

Anybody? No one's been to Ponderosa? Maybe I should post this in the UK forum - we see UK visitors there every time we go!

I don't know for sure. In fact, I didn't know they still had Ponderosas around. All of ours around here closed several years ago. However, I just typed in Ponderosa Orlando and this came up. It shows four locations in the Orlando area. It lists different entrees with price ranges and says the 'soup and salad bar' is included, so it doesn't sound like they have anything on the bar except those:http://www.ponderosaorlando.com/pages/Menu-06.html

If you click on the buffet tab at the top is says: Enjoy our complimentary Soup & Salad Bar with your entree purchase

The one near me here in Rochester, NY just closed a month ago, but we got a Golden Corral somI can still get my buffet fix to clog my veins lol

Hmm... never thought to look up the menu - duh! Looks like it's still like it used to be - maybe they had enough complaints and never went thru with the changes. Definitely check it out when we get down there.

Totally jealous about your Golden Corral! LOL We have to drive over an hour to Albany to get to the closest one.

The Ponderosa's around here all still have more than just a salad bar. They have all kinds of different options on the buffet plus the various entrees that you can order in addition to the buffet.

Went to our local Ponderosa a couple of months ago. It was the first time we went there in ten years. Nothing much has changed. They still had their steak entrees as well as their "salad" bar (actually their food bar with a number of hot items including pasta and chicken).

We probably won't go back there for another ten years. Golden Corral is so much better. I would suggest eating there. That said, I'm not sure if steak is on the menu for weekday lunch.

The Ponderosa's around Disney are so much worse than the Golden Corall. We all got sick the last time we ate at the one across from caribe Royale. Never again. I ate at them all the time as a kid, it was a big night out for my family. Never again! Nasty dirty places. UK people, please know there is better buffet available!

Looked up Golden Corral around Disney and didn't like what I read from most of the reviews. We've gone to the Ponderosa on the 192 for YEARS and never had a problem. Great food - well, OK food, but I always leave there stuffed. Last time we were there they had much improved washrooms which was probably from new management. Anyway, we love it. I'm glad it seems that they haven't changed it.

my dd18 works at the ponderosa here in ohio and she says they have a whole bar dedicated to salads and the rest of her buffet is the hot foods, its been that way as long as i can remember too.

I've noticed several of the Ponderosas in Orlando have either closed or been changed to Golden Corrals,there's still some around but less than 4-5 years ago.

I think the ones near the theme parks that are open every day for breakfast are better than the local ones that are not as busy.For example I just don't go to the one closest to my house in Miami but when I'm in Orlando I'll occasionally do Golden Corral,the food is still nothing great but it seems to be changed more often making it better.

The Golden Corral on 192 near 429 is seriously nasty. The staff was downright rude, with the exception of the woman who was serving our section who agreed that the rest of the staff was downright rude. Oh yeah, and it's connected to some convenience store/gift shop place. Classy.

The one on Vineland is pretty nice.
