Sears just delivered a brand new dryer. Upon closer inspection, there is a two-inch long scratch that's almost a crack on the control panel. The dryer wasn't cheap - $1200. But was a pain to get into my laundry room - had to remove one door. Would you have Sears come back to replace it with another dryer or would you say "what the heck, it'll probably look like this in a year anyway?" I need some unbiased opinions because I'm so angry at DH (who accepted delivery and signed off on the condition of the dryer) that I can't think straight right now.

Ugh. I would call, but I bet their hands are pretty tied since delivery and condition were signed off on. Try not to be too mad at him! As long as it works, is it really a huge deal? You're the only one who sees it!

Heck yes, I would be complaining. If the dryer is totally functional, and you think you can live with looking at that scratch and crack every day without it making you sick to your stomach, (I couldn't at that price) ask them for a partial refund to the amount of what it would go for at a "scratch and dent" sale. I would have to get some kind of satisfaction or it would really bother me to look at it. No way would I accept this deal as is.

ETA. They may be able to replace the panel cover. Then all you would need is a bottle of appliance paint. It's kind of like white out, it would cover the scratch. There would still have to be some kind of discount in addition to the free repair parts.

I would definantly give Sears a call, just explain exactly what happened. I'm sure they can do something for you

We inspect our stuff before they leave. You can get into that nasty little thing where they say "you signed off on it".

Frankly I would demand a new dryer. You don't know if the dryer was bashed into, dropped, etc...it is damaged, period.

I was quite harsh with DH and he knows he messed up. I feel sick to my stomach for unloading on him. But I'm also sick at the thought of spending so much money on something that's not quite perfect. Help!

I'd definitely call and talk to them.

I just bought all new appliances (6 of them) last Sunday at Sears. it'll be awhile before they are delivered but I'm expected every last one to be look and be "brand spanking new".

Good luck!!

When we had our new refrigerator delivered from Lowes, there was a tiny scratch on the front, I didn't except the delivery, I would know it was there and it would bug me. They asked if I would take it if they took money off the price which I didn't, but maybe they will offer that to you.

I'd definitely call and demand a replacement. If you wanted a scratched unit you would have shopped at a scratch and dent sale. $1200 is too much money to spend on something that doesn't come perfect. Who knows if that surface scratch is a sign of some kind of damage inside. I would not let that slide

I would complain. When we got our new washer the front panel seemed off. When they went for the dryer I look closer and saw a bash in the back that pushed the panel forward. I told them I would not accept this washer. They called and tried to offer me some money. I said not and I refused to sign for the delivery. They brought a new one. We did use that one and it worked, but I am sure we would have had problems down the road.

I'm a little confused by all the people saying how angry they would be and that they would demand satisfaction from Sears. The bottom line is, the OP's DH ACCEPTED THE DELIVERY. Assuming he is an adult of sound mind, that's all she wrote from a legal perspective - they have no obligation to even entertain a conversation from the OP.

The only way to even try to get something from Sears would be to sweet talk your way into it, not by coming on like gangbusters. Even still, depending on what type of customer you are and whether Sears thought they would get repeat business from you, you might have a tough time.

Good luck.

You're right, but obviously the OP's hubby missed the damage. I think the OP should calm down and call Sears and tell them exactly that: My husband accepted delivery but missed some damage on the dryer. She will get more flies with honey than vinegar.
