Sliders on kid's Magic Bands?

Our little one will likely need to have the black part removed from his Magic Band to make it small enough for his wrist. Would a slider still work to keep it from falling off? To be honest, I don't even know if he'll keep it on at all anyway. He always rips off the paper ones at the museum and aquarium. What strategies have you used for this?
