Sleepless in POR - uncomfortable beds

Oh, my aching back! Hi, Just back from 8 sleepless nights at POR. Ok, I'm exagerating a little, ;) but my back still hurts from those uncomfortable beds. Don't get me wrong, the landscaping is beautiful at POR and we were satisfied with our stay, but geez, I have stayed at POLY, YC, POP (only 1 night), and in Disney Magic and Wonder stateroom beds, and I have never had a more difficult time sleeping in any of those places as I did on those beds at POR. What DO they do to those mattresses anyway?

I also didn't like that the beds were raised so high. I don't remember the other resort beds being that high and it just doesn't seem to be as relaxing to have to "land" in order to get out of bed...lol.

So, I was wondering about a few things...

If anyone out there has stayed at both POR and POFQ...

1. Does POFQ have the same high beds and/or uncomfortable mattresses that POR has?

Now I know to some degree, it is probably a matter of opinion, but as far as Disney resorts go...

2. What other Disney resorts, in your opinion, have uncomfortable beds?

3. Have you found any really comfy Disney resort beds out there?

Thanks for sharing, Tink

I'm thinking of booking my next trip at POFQ but now that you said the beds are awful I may have to re-consider...BF and I both have horrible backs. Please tell me it isn't so! :confused3

I'm just back from AKL and had the same problem. DH slept fine, but I'm the one w/ the chronic back problems. I've stayed there before, though, with no problems. And I've had no problems at the poly, magic or wonder, either.

hmmmmmmmm..................

We were at POR for the first time recently and we slept great. Of course we were so tired I think we could have slept anywhere.
I liked the high beds. It did feel strange in the morning when I first got up though. But I liked the space...after unpacking I put our empty suitcases under the bed.

I'm sorry that you didn't sleep well - I know that can put a damper on vacation...

POR replaced the matresses to the new firmer version which will be appearing throughout WDW, I believe. They are quite firm, and I really notice a difference compared to the older ones (I like the firm)

As an FYI, my room at SSR had one of the softer ones.

I slept okay at POR but awoke with a sore lower back. DH slept fine =)

We have never stayed at POR, but we were at POFQ. They had high beds too, and I believe they were quite firm. We were at CBR for Thanksgiving week and they have high, firm beds. And AKL and WL do too. The BWI beds were not unusually high. They were very comfortable.

But the best nights sleep you will ever get by far is to sleep in one of the "heavenly beds" at the Swan. Great location, pretty hotel and great night's sleep.

We thought the beds at POR were great on both visits. However, we hated the POP beds. Everyone is different...

The best beds in disney are not actually in a Disney hotel - they are in the swan and dolphin - as they are owned by westin and sheraton they have the westin heavenly beds! My nan has really bad back and hip problems and she said she's never slept better!

I found the mattress at the Poly to be too soft for me. I requested a board for under the mattress that helped a bit. I put that request on my reservation for my upcoming trip. If the beds are too soft, which they seem to be wherever I go, I'll sleep on the floor.

POR has new beds we were fine with the beds but we had aproblem with the pillows! They were very thick and high gave us all stiff necks finally took pillow out and sleept with 2 towels,,,,,

Thanks for all the responses. I'm sorry to hear that the resorts will all be switching over to those uncomfortable mattresses that POR has.

You know I wanted to book the Swan for this trip just for the beds I heard about, but Swan/Dolphin didn't take part in the Magical Express. Silly reason for not choosing them maybe, and I know it's a great location, so perhaps my aching back will benefit from the heavenly beds on a future trip.

Any other "heavenly bed" lovers out there?

Thanks, Tink

when we stayed at Carribean beach last year, they had pillow top mattresses there. they were very comfy!

but you know everyone is different, and has different tastes. one person may not like soft beds and would prefer the 'firmer' ones. then there are those who love the soft beds (like me :goodvibes ).

and the pillows... i really despise the pillows that go flat when you lay down on them. then you have to double them up or fold them in half to have some type of cushion. so the thick pillows... i would appreciate. just goes to show you that everyone is different. :confused3

We didn't like the beds at POP. We could feel the springs running through the top of the mattress. My DH has back problems and he complained about the mattress the whole time we were there.

My DH is VERY sensitive to beds and finds it very hard to sleep in hotel beds. (I can sleep on the floor and it wouldn't bother me. ) He has NO trouble falling asleep in the beds in POFQ. We all slept like a baby (Including our 3 yr old) HOwever, ASMo beds were horrible! (one more reason we will never stay there again.)

I'm sorry you didn't sleep well on the POR beds. I really like the new mattresses and slept well. But mattresses are a personal thing, and everyone has different tastes. We just went shopping for a new mattress this week and it's not easy finding one. Plus, there are so many different kinds and everyone wants something different.

Have you slept on the new beds at the Grand Floridian or Polynesian. I would have to say they are every bit as comfortable as the Heavenly Beds.

Just back from POR and Poly and have to say we slept great in both places. The beds in POR were good and the beds at the POLY were great!!

We had the same problem with Pop in October, so imagine how surprised we were during our visit last weekend and stayed at the AKL/savanna view and had the exact same type of matteresses at the AKL. Again I could feel the springs in my back--which you can actually run your hand over the bed and fee the springs. The only comfortable bed I've ever had was a the BC this past July....(and the hardrock and portofino resorts at US). The bed at the CR/wing room this past September was softer, but had a hump in the center and is was hard not rolling to the sides....but no springs.
