Sleepless at the Yacht Club

Thanks for the heads up. We're staying there in September for F&W. Now, I have to weigh whether the easy access to Epcot is worth the thin walls.

To the OP...... sorry you're having to deal with noise. I was afraid that the YC would be noisy after they changed out the flooring during the refurb.

A trick I've used in several hotels is to roll up a bath towel and put it tightly up against the bottom of the connecting door. You can also do that with the door to the hall. I've also opened the connecting door and placed the rolled up towel in between the bottoms of the doors. It doesn't eliminate the noise, but can help a little. There's really not much you can do about noise coming from the non-connecting room. With no carpeting in the rooms to absorb some of the sound, you're bound to hear more noise.

We've stayed at the YC several times, and it used to be one of our favorites. However, I'm seeing way too many reports of noise, so I doubt we'll be staying there anytime soon.

It's 11 p.m. and I am lying in bed at the Yacht Club and can't sleep because it is so loud!

We checked in and were given a very rundown looking room on the first floor. The carpet was bubbled, the shower was stained and the decor was dated. Those things didn't bother me. However, my problem was that the room hadn't been cleaned. There was a candy wrapper and a tissue on the floor along with a water bottle cap in the middle of the rug and a potato chip with a bite out of it. There was also 2 strands of hair in the shower and a used wine glass left on the floor by the door.

The manager at the desk could not have been nicer. He was apologetic and fixed the situation immediately by moving us into one of the newly remodeled rooms.

It is beautiful and I immediately noted the floors were wood/laminate instead of carpet. I LOVED that because hotel rugs are gross.

I've now discovered the downside to the lack of carpet. IT. IS. SO. LOUD!

This room has a connecting door to the room next to it and I can hear every word of their conversation as if they are in the room. I can also hear the room on the other side of us (loud, but more muffled) and the people of above us as well as water running and toilets flushing.

When people walk down the hall they can be heard outside the doors as well (although there is plush carpeting in the hallways).

Anyhow, I'm not so much complaining but did feel it was worth mentioning to give others a heads up. If you have young kids or are a light sleeper it is worth being aware of.
This was one of my concerns when I heard they were going away from carpet. If you use "high quality" padding underneath it, it helps a lot, but I knew WDW would not go that route, probably went with the basic plastic sheet with a very thin layer of foam:( The bottom line rules all! I

I can't tell you just how helpful white noise apps are.

I have one called Ambiance. It has every sound on the planet available but the only one I use is called Sleep Machine.

It's a life (sleep) saver at home and on the road. We bring a small X-mini speaker to run the Bluetooth connection through and we sleep like babies.

There is nothing worse than being in a bed that isn't yours and not being able to sleep.

We had the same issue in our room earlier this month at the YC in a renovated room. Even without a connecting door we could hear everything said in the room next to us. It was to the point that I could still here them even with my earplugs in. Fortunately for us it was only one night that was bad, the other nights we got back after that family went to bed, and woke up before they did. I do have to agree that the new floors do seem to make it a lot louder than it used to be! Also noted I need to get better earplugs.

I love those new rooms and I can't wait to stay in one. They're gorgeous. Maybe the floors aren't practical for an entire hotel, but they still look and probably smell better :crazy2: than the carpeting.

But yes, a sound machine can make a big difference. I personally don't like the apps because one blew out one of the speakers on my phone.

I will be taking my white noise machine. Thank you for the heads up.
White noise machines are great and a must for travel!

You can download a white noise app for you phone to use when you travel.
Honestly, white noise apps just arent the same. Maybe im a picky sleeper, but i need either a fan or a white noise machine. I cannot sleep with the white noise app running.

I have read that some resorts have fans they will hand out. Maybe one would help mask the noise for you.
Fans work like a charm for me. I honestly cannot sleep without it. I like both white noise machines and fans, but i like fans more. I need to find a portable fan for travel. :)
