What would you do? Our DD (17) asked if she could sleep over at a friend's house this Saturday night with a few other girls. The mother of the girl whose house it is, recently took a deliberate overdose of sleeping pills. I don't know the circumstances of why, but she is OK. This happend about a month ago. I believe she's getting counseling.
Our DD told us what happened and we asked several times after that how her Mom was doing? Fine, we were told. It wasn't made out to be a big deal but now my DH is having reservations about our DD staying overnight.
Now, our DD has her own car (she pays for it), her own job, drives herself everywhere (she's a senior in HS), and is very level headed. All of her friends are the same way.
I have no problem with her staying overnight. It's not as if we are really expecting her mother to watch over them, like when they were younger. DD has her own cell phone, transportation, etc. so if there is a problem (which I'm 99% sure there won't be), she's equipped.
My DH will come around to my way of thinking, but I want him to feel at ease about it. Our DD said she should never have told us. She never expected us to feel this way. I don't want her NOT to tell us things because of how she's afraid we'll react.
