I was having some fun just u-tubing Disneyland and noticed there use to be a walk thru exhibit for S.B. castle and it looked so cool. Then I read it has been closed since 9-11. How sad. Do they ever talk of re-opening it?

There's an interesting thread about this somewhere. I guess more so than security, the major problem is that it's so narrow and confined, with few exits, that they couldn't make it safe enough for the fire marshal to ok it. It would take major cash to renovate the whole thing. It got really run down and now it's too far gone to be worth it to renovate. Sad, huh?

I remember the walk thru...well parts of it. I didn't really think it was all that great, but it was fun to walk through the castle :goodvibes

I have never heard of Disney opening the castle walk thru, but I wish they would. I miss it. :(

I heard they were talking about redoing it and opening it again. Not sure if it was just a rumor or what. I don't know, it was cute, but if they do open it up again I hope they make it better.

On our VIP tour we took in April we were told that Disneyland is going to reopen it, however, right now they are concentrating on DCA, so it will be awhile - we couldn't get a date out of our guide. :)

That's something I really remember as a kid. I liked it, but I didn't like that the dolls didn't look much like the characters.. :confused3

It would be faboulous if they reopened her up. When I was a kid it was always one of the things we loved to do, it was like we were visiting the castle and now without that attraction it just doesn't feel like you can visit the castle.

I liked going thru the castle, too. Now I am not sure what to say to my DD4 when she wants to know why we can't go inside....:confused3

When I was a little girl, I was deathly afraid of the castle walk-through. I think it was due to the blue/greenish tint to Aurora right before she pricked her finger on the needle.

I did POTC just fine, but I was afraid of the castle for some reason, that and Mr. Toad's Wild Ride :confused3 go figure!

I remember that!! I liked the walk thru as a kid, although it was very small. I cant wait til they re-open it! I dont remember anything of it except for the fact that you can walk through it, and that there was a storybook along the way somewhere. I dont even remember what the dolls looked like, actually, I dont even remember dolls.

Jory-
Thanks for posting the link - I'd always wondered! I do hope they reopen the castle with a new exhibit!

I just loved watching that clip. It brought me back. I too hope that they re-open it.
The reasons I heard that it was closed were:
To expensive to keep up
That doesnt make any sense to me though because , come on, DL its bank account is full, there is plenty of $$ to go around for up keep.
It isnt handicapped accessible.
That makes sense, it isnt. if you are in a wheel chair or a ECV? or you cant do stairs, there is no way to see it. but then I heard that , that structure was under some grandfather clause that it was built before the city code for a structure had to be accessible . hmmmmm. I think maybe DL closed it because not everyone could view it and thought until they were able to redo it and make it accessible for everyone, just better to close it. thats my opinion on the matter.
and finally,
it was closed due to 911.
I dont think thats it because why would the castle be the target of some sinister plot?
The lady at the Heraldry shop below told me that its because of the accessability for handicapped folk. and now it is used for storage.
Too bad, but the clip on youtube, that was wonderful!
Thats all Ive got!

There was mention of a re-do a few months ago in Al Lutz's column on MiceAge. After the great reviews came in with the redo of Piarte's Lair.

According to information uncovered by the U.S. government after 9-11, Sleeping Beauty Castle and Cinderella Castle were among the targets the terrorists had thought about hitting.

While I'd love to see the walkthrough re-open, I'll believe it when I see it.

They may have been on the list, but I think if Disney thought that there was a real threat they would have closed down Cinderella Castle, too.

There are several places that could be targets at the Disneyland Resorts, both parks and they haven't been shut down.

It just doesn't make sense to me that this is the reason that the castle hasn't been reopened.

It's more likely because the figures in the scenes were taken out and the area used as storage. They have to clean it out, rebuild the scenes, etc., and since it was an "A" ticket attraction (if memory serves correctly), financially it is not a high priority for them.

I miss the old movie theatre in Fantasyland more than the walkthrough! Was a great place to spend a hot summer afternoon watching the old Winnie the Pooh movies in A/C

:)

I will now believe that they are refurbishing the Castle as we speak. it may take 100 years more or less but this is in my reality now. I also believe my dog can talk and can count to 3. My Dfi thinks I am insane.:rotfl2:

I would love to see this reopen sometime as Sleeping Beauty is one of my favorites. I know the walk-through in WDW is always filled with people so not sure if its more narrow at DL but I can see where it could be a problem.
