I noticed for our dates in February, the castle is listed as under refurbishment. Anyone heard any rumors about this? I wonder if it will just be the walk-through or if the whole thing will be covered in a tarp like before the 50th.

Just curious if anyone knows any rumors as I've heard none.

I read somewhere it is suppose to be covered in diamonds...some how! I am sure it will be, they will want to make their 60th special.

I just posted on Disney's facebook page asking for clarification. I truly honestly wish we weren't going in Feb - I went in March of 2010 when they were doing extensive construction and it SUCKED. We haven't bought our tickets yet and our hotel isn't paid - I am honestly thinking about not bothering and just going to somewhere else.

I wonder how many people are going to scrap their plans after seeing the refurbishment list.

We've been in the 'off season' many times but this looks to be the 'worst' as far as refurbs go. There are about a dozen rides down for our visit.

Am I missing something because I'm not seeing that many rides on the list I saw earlier.

My first day in the parks is February 4th.

These rides/attractions will be closed....

Steam Trains
Canoes
Peter Pan
Splash Mountain
It's a Small World
Winnie the Pooh
Matterhorn
Soarin'
Luigi's Flying Tires
Redwood Creek Challenge
World of Color
Grizzly River Run

It looks like Small World reopens on the 6th. But the others are still down. Plus another calendar (for some reason the Disneyland site has a few different calendars) also lists the castle being closed.

There's also a list of restaurants and shops that will be closed. Here's the 6th -

Ok so a bit more. :( That's too bad. I couldn't find anything through the Disney website, but I see it through your link, weird. Our dates are 2/2-2/7. I guess I'm thankful none of the big fave rides are down. Pirates, HM, BTMRR, SM etc.

The Matterhorn is going down January 7th. The reopen date is unknown.

Ah gotcha, thanks. I got excited when I saw that list and it wasn't on it. :rotfl:
I was anxious to try out the new to me bobsleds.

Yeah you can expect a lot of closures and refurbishments between January and May due to the 60th anniversary.

We seriously considered it, it would cost us $4000 in rescheduled flights alone as we can only go earlier in January, not later in the yr, then add in the cost of changing out accommodation dates, so we are just hoping for the best now.

it would be heartbreaking if we don't get to see the castle in all her glory, that castle is synonymous with Disneyland.

I will just keep telling my self this trip will still be amazing, whole new country and all that

Frankly, they're awful. We were excited to try them too and after we did I got more bruises from it than any other Disney rides that trip!

Ditto. Love that ride, but won't ride again unless the smooth out the track. It was terrible and painful and I'm not all that old!

That's how I feel about Space Mountain at WDW so I'm sure that's how I'll feel when I eventually ride the new bobsleds on the Matterhorn.

I'm 5'9" and - at least in the back - couldn't stretch out my legs at all, or even get my knees in a good position on the Matterhorn bobsled. I ended up sitting cross-legged and had some pretty impressive bruises. It was pretty miserable.

I hope you get your wish, I would be so disappointed too. It's hard when these things pop up at the last minute, and certainly too hard and expensive to change hotels and flights around at that short notice.

It also looks like Soarin' Over California is closed, and another site is reporting it's closed until May? What are they doing to it that will take 5+ months?

We'll be there in April for the Star Wars Convention across the street....Soarin' is my favorite ride both in California and Florida.
