Never thought I would need to ask this question. However, our suprise will be 2 months old when we venture to VB this summer and I am considering taking her bassinet. I am unsure of what they ahve available? Will it be comfortable? Safe? And so on. Do you normally take something for your child to sleep in?

I believe that all DVC resorts have pack-n-plays. My DD was 1 when she slept in it and she did fine. If I was driving and had the room in the car, I would bring the bassinet. When my DS was 2 months old we went to Gettysburg PA, I brought the bassinet. I wanted him to feel like (sleep like) he was at home. He was used to sleeping in a small space. I was afraid that he wouldn't sleep well in a different bed, and if he didn't sleep well that means I wouldn't sleep well. He did fine in his own bed. I hope you have a great trip.

We travelled a ton when our youngest was a newborn, and I dragged a portable bassinet around with me--it folded and came with a carrying case, plus it had a slight elevation on one end. We were able to check it onto airplanes and fit it easily into the car for different trips. I could place it on the floor between the beds in hotel rooms.

I also highly recommend a portable white-noise machine. The familiar sound helped our ds sleep anywhere (we used it at home and away).

Have fun and congratulations!

They probably have pack and plays. They are fine to sleep in, but if your little one has never slept in one, I recommend getting her/him used to it now - naps, etc. Otherwise, take your bassinet.

OK, I know some of you may shake your head in disbelief and think I am an unfit mother... but when traveling with my second child I had her sleeping in a dresser drawer next to our bed with a small comforter lining it. It really worked perfectly! A nice small safe spot for her to sleep when she wasn't snuggling with us. We were flying down to FL and renting a house in Captiva. I really didn't want to drag our pack and play down or pay for renting a crib. She was probably 5 months on that trip.

Now if you have a nice portable bassenette - take that!

Lisa-You are not unfit. I've done the drawer thing too! It works great when you have no other options.

Just discovered I can pop the 3rd row seat completely out of my SUV and then use the storage compartment it goes in when collasped for additional storage- so the bassinet will travel with us. Its unreal how much you need with you when traveling with a baby, its been a long time since we've done this. Thanks everyone for the input!!!!

Our son was a little over three months old on his first visit. This is what we did that first time. We had a smaller bassinet that he slept in in our room for the first couple of months. It had a little mattress, and a little padded mattress cover. We just brought that mattress, and the cover, and the little sheets, and some regular crib sheets. The pack and plays down there have a crib sheet, but we put some of our own over that, then put the bassinet mattress with its pad and sheet in the pack and play. He was used to sleeping on the bassinet mattress, so it was "normal" for him. And that way we didn't have to take the whol bassinet.

It is amazing how much your luggage changes when you travel with a baby. We went from a carry-on each to having to rent those carts at the airport, and rent a car to put it all in. So far, the amount of luggage hasn't went down any. You'll be amazed at the stuff you take. And every time we went to dvc before the baby, I had no idea what that "kitchen" space was for. But now the dishwasher, fridge, washer and dryer, well, I don't know how people are staying at disney without those.

When we went with our 7 month old she slept in her stroller. We had a crib and we did use that as well, but some nights after walking her a bit we just left her in the stroller to sleep. Just another thought in case you are already bringing the stroller. ( I too have used a drawer before).

on our january trip dd was 4 months and slept fine in the pack n play. however 2 weeks ago, at 8 months she had difficulty as it wasn't her 'norm'.

i would think a 2 month would sleep just fine anywhere :)
