I am considering Old Key West or Saratoga Springs for our next trip (along with loads of you). I know that the studio at OKW has 2 queen beds and that SS has queen bed and sleeper sofa. I also know that the 1 bed only has 1 king bed and sleeper sofa.

I am concerned about using a sleeper sofa for 14 nights (could put up with for a few nights). Does the sofa have to be made up with bedding every night? It wasn't so bad on a cruise as someone came in to do that for you in the evening.

DD will be 14 next trip and DS 10 so sleeping arrangements are getting trickier.

The sleeper sofas can be folded with the bedding on them. You just need to get the pillow out each night.

At OKW they are not made up when you arrive but the sheets etc are in the closet in the bathroom (in a one bed). Other resorts have them already made so SSR might have them with sheets on already but I haven't stayed there so not sure.

when we stayed at OKW, the sleeper sofa was already made up for us. Maybe it's just the luck of the draw. As Tracy says, though, the sofa can be folded away with the bedding on once intact.

Personally, I wouldn't want to sleep on one for 14 nights but I really don't find them comfortable at all.

How many of you are there? Would it make more sense to book 2 rooms?

I slept on a sleeper sofa at AKV Kidani Village two years ago, it was made up ready when we arrived and could have been folded all made up. I found it really comfortable and will be spending another 2 weeks on it in October :)

I slept on the sofa bed at SSR and to be honest I found it really uncomfortable.

I consider myself quite fit but on a morning I was a wreck getting out of bed and took a while to loosen up - I often woke in the night as my hips were hurting

Our DDs had the bedroom and on the last night I persuaded them to sleep on the sofa bed and the next morning they both complained they had hardly slept. They were 8 & 9 at the time

I would also add I asked for a matress topper from housekeeping after reading abut that from here but for me this made no difference - Since then we have always chosen accommodation with 2 beds.

Hmm i was condsidering a one bedroom villa with kids in the bedroom with us on the sofa be but sounds like they can be a bit uncomfortable.

Love the idea of having our own room rather than having to go to sleep when the kids do bu maybe i should look at just a normal room.

Would love a 2 bed villa so will maybe have to check the prices out

I guess you are probably looking at free dining but, if you are considering a 2-bed, you might want to look at the cost of renting DVC points for a 2-bed and adding the dining plan, as it could work out cheaper.

This to me is the problem with paying the massive money for a one bed villa. I have two teenagers of opposite gender and no one wants to be sleeping on a sofa bed for two weeks when they are adult size and at 12 and 15 they are not delighted at the idea of sharing any kind if bed.

Firstly, there is no way I would ever give up the king bed to DD :rotfl:

She sleeps happily on the sleeper chair in the one bed at OKW. I wouldn't pay for a 2 bedroom until she is much older however I also wouldn't want all of us in one room for 2 weeks as that's not a holiday!

The space is amazing to have plus I really couldn't give up my in room laundry ;)

My niece slept on the sleeper sofa last time we took her and she was 18. She said that it was comfy but then she often sleeps on sofa beds at various relatives homes.

Once when we had the option, her and her brother took a week each on the sleeper sofa.

We have this dilemma too. I had originally thought DH and I would sleep on sofa bed in lounge and give my children the master bedroom. Mainly for reasons mentioned already - having 'space' and somewhere to 'go' when they go to sleep etc. My parents would have the lock off with two beds (hopefully, if we get this type). But I've been doing some reading and not sure the sofa bed sounds that comfortable. Having said that, I have read that some sofa beds are newer and have proper mattresses without the bars underneath that always make sofa beds uncomfortable. These seem to be in newer accom. I am wondering if because OKW was refurbed a while back, whether newer sofa beds are used.

I have come up with a plan B - which involves DH and I sharing a room with children for the 18 nights (not ideal), so we'll give the sofa bed a go first I think! :thumbsup2

In Aug our DD 19 spent 21 nights on one of the OKW sofa beds and she said that it nearly crippled her. It really bothered her back and she said that she'd never sleep on one of them again. Our youngest DD slept on the chair and loved it!

We stayed at SSR a few years ago and had the same issue as others with the sofa - it was so uncomfortable we took turns to have a bad night's sleep.

Everything else about the Studio was great - the rooms seem to be built a bit better than other resorts as we hardly heard a sound from outside or other rooms.

I'm pleased we have a plan B and can all sleep in beds if need be! :thumbsup2 I have not heard anyone say the sleeper chair is uncomfortable but then it only sleeps one, so not much use to us!

Our sofa bed in SSR in February was lovely. I found it very comfortable. But I was so tired every night to be honest I would have slept in the bath or DDs pushchair ( if I could fit)

Thanks everyone for your help. It is good that the bedding can remain in place. The OKW 1 bed mentions a twin-size sleeper chair. What is that like? Is it an option that would allow children to sleep separately.

There will be myself, DH, DD (14) and DS (10). I think the cost of 2 rooms in July/August would work out too expensive.

We stayed in a 1 bed in Aug. for 21 nights my DD 15 slept on the sleeper chair for the whole trip and had plenty of room and said that it was really comfortable. Our older DD slept on the sleeper sofa. So yes two children would be able to sleep separately! :thumbsup2

What resort was this Catherine? OKW or SS?

We've stayed at Saratoga and OKW a couple of times. The sofa bed at Saratoga was really uncomfortable. The queen size beds at OKW studio are great. We were upgraded to a one bed last time we were at OKW and whilst it was lovely to have all the extra space, I hated my 9 year old sleeping on the sofa bed in the vast kitchen/ lounge area whilst we were in the bedroom. She got spooked by being near the front door alone and the ice machine in the fridge kept her awake all night. We eventually moved the sofa into the bedroom with us!
