If you visit Slapton Sands in Devonshire, UK, you may come across a fossilised tank on the beach. The beaches became infamous, but for conflicting reasons. All of which are sinister.
One account is that the British military used Slapton Sands for D-Day simulations en masse but catastrophically used LIVE rounds and LIVE soldiers; this version of events was only officially released in recent years and before that the disaster had been surrounded in mystery. The revolution of the disaster only came to right when a fishing trawler snagged a tank on the sea floor, triggering a scrambling on behalf of the British Forces to come clean.
But there is another, more sinister story. It states that under cover of darkness, the German forces ACTUALLY INVADED British soil in the latter days of the war. British resistance kept them at bay but the ease at which the Germans could accomplish a landing site was considered demoralising and crushing to the war effort was just as such that the UK Government hushed it all up.
I believe there is a third story about German forces arriving and targeting allied forces on manoeuvres, but I've not heard much of it as is.
