Has anyone flown with Skyservice recently? Can you tell me if you cleared U.S. customs at Pearson before leaving?

Once you have gone through security at Pearson Airport you have passed customs in the US. You are now considered in the USA. I know this because of using skyservice in 1995 and because 2 years ago I flew out of Pearson on a business trip and after going through security there was a sign that said US customs.

Just a minor point, even though you have cleared US Customs (or more accurately, you have pre-cleared US Customs), you are still in Canada (including in the legal sense). A lot of people get confused by this (including USA Customs). A few years ago @ Pearson, USA Customs officers tried to enforce USA laws (and detained people, issued fines, etc) -- which was not legal.

Those Peel Police officers that are stationed in the Pearson Airport USA Customs pre-clearance facility are there to ensure USA Customs officers don't overstep their boundaries, and to step in if USA Customs was to interview anyone.

Good point ONTFAMILY!!! My sister in-law was flying 2 years ago from Vancouver and had a lay over in Toronto. She technically had already cleared US customs in Vancouver. We went to see her and the security wouldn't let her walk through a door way because they said she wasn't really in Canada anymore. We drove all that way and couldn't even see her but could see her shadow through a wall. NOW that is stupid in my opinion.

Actually, that kind of makes sense doesn't it? If she had already cleared customs and was allowed to see you then you could giver her something to smuggle into the US. It certainly would seem silly to you as you were just there to see a relative and smuggling was furthest thing from your mind but it would be possible.
