Wondering what people's experience has been with this. We will be in St. Thomas on 3/2 and it looks like the Fantasy is 1 of 5 ships in port that day. Is it crowded? A wait? Any problems getting drinks/food up top?

It was very easy to take this ride. We were only ship on a Sunday, but the way it's organized I imagine not much of a wait if more ships in port. Views were amazing. Nice little restaurant at top and small gift shop. Good seating area in shade and enjoy the view.

Depending when you go, there may be a wait to board as the tram cars are pretty small. Buying the tickets doesn't generally save a lot of money but you do avoid the line to purchase them, which can also be long.

Wasn't too crowded when we did it. But only two ships in port that day. The views are nice. We didn't eat or drink anything but didn't seem overly crowded.

We decided to make this a last minute option - it is walking distance. This worked well as my daughter got sea sick on our excursion so we went back to the ship and my husband and I traded off. I ended up heading up with my other daughter. No real wait to get up as it was later in the day. They had a little bird show and it was getting closer to the end of the day so we cut the bird show short to get in line for the tram down before the rest of the crowd watching the bird show. I didn't eat or drink up there, but I did buy some souvenirs. There were at least 3 ships in port.

MickeyEarrings beat me to it. Order a bushwhacker up there. It's their specialty drink. YUMMY!

We've been up there several times. Well worth it just for the view alone. We have never encountered a long line or crowds.

How much time is realistic to spend doing it? Is is close to shopping when you get back to the bottom?

I have no idea how many ships were in port, but I've been to St. Thomas 6 times, we ride the skyride every time, never buy our tickets in advance, and I sure don't remember there every being a wait. But, other than the first 2 visits, St. Thomas is always our sleep in port morning, so it is usually about 11 am before we get off the ship and walk over.
