Skype and cat not recognizing person

You know how cats have a favorite person? Our cats favorite is my daughter. Loves, loves, loves her. I am a distant second.

My daughter is now far away in school and only gets home occasionally. So we Skype. But the cat doesn't seem to know who the heck this person is on the screen and totally ignores her. My DD will call her name repeatedly, yet the cat doesn't respond. She's even dangled a toy mouse on the screen and still no recognition. We've been Skyping for over 6 months now, usually weekly.

Has anybody else experienced this? Do you think the cat only knows DD thru scent and doesn't recognize her face or voice? I don't know how else to explain the cat behavior.

Maybe the cat only thinks in 3D.
Maybe it's a Luddite cat.
Maybe the cat is angry and teaching your daughter a lesson, and you should consider counseling.
Maybe the cat does like and understand computers but is protesting the ubiquity of electronics in our lives.

Funny you should say that. When DD came home, cat WAS mad at her for several hours. Then she wouldn't leave her lap.

I think cats recognize people by smell. Skype hasn't master sending smells, at least yet. The concept of TV or someone on a computer probably also isn't within their comprehension. My daughter went away to college her Freshman year, cat never paid any attention to Skype, but was happy to see her when she came home every 5 or 6 weeks.
