Skyauction?

Just to update: I lost $300 to Skyauction. I had purchased a week but they didn't give me the contact information to reach the resort. I booked elsewhere since they weren't responding.

Never again!!!!

After you've won the auction, you should have received an email from letting you know how to go about confirming your dates. There is a link in the email that you must click in order to confirm and then you get a final confirmation that you present at the resort. Perhaps it went to your spam folder?

A 2 bedroom at Silver Lake is coming up for 8/13 - 8/20 for $299 + $20 + $1 (or more if others bid on it). We just stayed there for Spring Break and had a great time.

Hey Gr8t Fan, glad to hear you guys had a great stay at Silver Lake! We had a nice stay there in 2010 and plan to stay there again in December for 2 weeks via the SA $249 vacation certificates. Can I ask: is there a resort fee at Silver Lake? Also, is there free Wi-Fi, or even just high speed internet--or is there a charge? My DH seems to think we had to pay a fee for internet use last time. If there are no extra fees, this will be the best rate we've gotten on a resort stay since 2002! Thanks for any info you might have.

No resort fee, free wifi.

Check the details on Skyauction's Silver Lake listing. I think it says the resort enforces a policy for only one stay every four years (it used to be two years). I don't know if they really would and am not sure if a two week stay is considered one or two stays. I'd call them just to be sure.

If you are assigned building four, ask for another. It faces Sherbeth Road and is noisy with no privacy. Also, buildings one through three are very close to a new resort that is under construction. I hear the construction noise has been a problem for some, but do not know when it will be completed.

We were in Building 200 and while there was construction going on in Magic Village Resort right across the courtyard from us, it didn't really bother us. In fact, it kept DS entertained some mornings. The buildings themselves were up, it was just finishing work inside the units as far as we could tell.

I've never heard of Skyauction until today, so I'm just learning. I'm leary of the no-cancellation policy, though. If I buy trip insurance through a 3rd party, will that be covered? Also, how close to your trip do you book with them? We're looking at the last week of September and since I'm worried about the no-cancellation policy, would it be foolish to wait until September 1 to start looking?

Edited to add: I read something about skyauction's flexible charges, but can't find details.

Anyone ever get a private house on skyauction? I've only seen a couple listed, so I wonder if they do them often.

disneysteve, when would you suggest shopping on skyauction for a September trip? Now, or closer to travel dates?

Check to see what is available now for September. Inventory changes all the time, but if you wait too long, most of the good places/units will be gone.
I agree 100%. Start checking now. Inventory is fluid. If you don't find what you like, keep checking. If you do find what you like, book it because it may not be there tomorrow.

I want to get this straight. So if I go here : http://www.skyauction.com/action/offer/2869120
and buy a certificate for $299 +$20 fee. I can go to the RVC site and book any hotel there for a week for free? I am looking at the Sheraton Vistana.
It depends. I would go to the RVC website and see if it's available for your dates. The link is on the SkyAuction link you provided. Not all resorts are available for all dates. In addition, you sometimes have to pay more for certain resorts for certain dates. Make sure that you can get what you want before you buy.

So the "Price" listed on the RVC site is in addition to the price paid for the certificate?

I am seeing "Price" for the Sheraton vistana around $500, but I think that is in addition to what I would pay for the certificate.

If you look at the list for Orlando resorts, you'll see some of them have a designation of "No Charge Accommodations Available" which means that it is POSSIBLE to book that resort for just the cost of the certificate (depending on the date). Both Sheraton Vistana resorts say "Upgrade Accommodations starting at $XXX.XX" without the "No Charge" designation. So, the cost of the Vistana resorts is the cost of the Cert ($299) PLUS the cost of the upgrade (minimum $452 at the Sheraton Vistana (not Fountains)). So a stay at the Sheraton Vistana will cost you a MINIMUM of $751.00 for the week IF AND ONLY IF it's available for your dates.
