I have seen skyaution referred to in various posts as a way to save money on our trips. Can anyone tell me more about it? Is it like priceline.com? How reliable is it? Has anyone used it?

Thanks

We recently won an auction on Skyauction for a short stay near WDW prior to our check at the WDW resort. We have received our E voucher/confirmation of accomodations but have not used them yet. We will know more after our trip in October to see if all is Ok with the bidding / winning process.

So far it looks good..

Maybe someone who has won an auction and has used the vouchers can update us with their experience.

it is reliable

but you have to do your home work first to see if the "location" you are bidding on is what you want

there are various auctions, but the better "locations" in orlando seem to go for more $$$

the ready set go auction which you can usually "win" for a bid of ~$50 or so, lets you choose your location from the "database" of locations that they have available

you can see what is available if you go the information on one of the Ready Set Go auctions and hit the "click here" wording

once there you can put your dates in

check for florida

and then it will come up with "locations" that might be available during that time frame you have put in ( recently when i checked for december 2004 it came up with about 35 locations that had potential )

if you find something you like you can actually "HOLD" it fot the auction ( ready set go ) you are bidding on, once you win the auction and contact them , you will have what you want

alternatively, with ready set go, you can win the auction and then have a time frame in the future by which you have to "complete" your travel ( choose your location )

if you really have a particular resort in mind ...say like Orange Lake or Vistana, your costs are going to be higher since these auctions seem to go for higher dollar amounts

be aware that there are "base costs" associated with the auction

those being 195$ service fee/taxes and 15$ processing fee ...whjch means your bid actually starts out at 210$ ( be aware also that there may be other fees not paid for now but due upon going to the resort ...we have yet to run across this in all of our travels using skyauction )

you really are getting a bargain when you win one of these, since you are usually getting a "timeshare" week that if you owned it would have yearly fees attached to it in addition to the "capital investment" to get into "timeshares"

what you are winning usually is an "Exchange" in the RCI network

pay close attention to wording also, and if possible choose a location that offers you a FULL kitchen in the 1 bedroom variety

sometimes the "units" put up by skyauction are the lock out part of the "whole" unit and thus you are getting the "smaller" side of the unit

anyhow, you can not go wrong for the price

we own two timeshares and DVC all in Orlando and even though we use them for trades, we also use skyauction to "supplement" our portfolio

any other questions, if i can, would be glad to answer them

all in all skyauction gives good value for the money

lawgs-

Thanks so much for all that information. It is almost to much to wrap my mind around. I think I will definitely be checking this out in the future! Thanks again.
