At present I only have the bog standard Sky but would really like Sky+ but don't really want to pay the £99 for a Sky+ box upgrade. Has anyone managed to get a Sky+ upgrade for free?

No ~ we had to pay the £99 but we also got multi-room included in that.

ours was the same as Flo's - 99 pounds with multi room, I coudn't be without it now ..

We got a special offer of £40 when we moved our other box upstairs.

Can't remember how much we paid as we have had it a long time we also have multi room and wouldn't be without it. Its so worth the £99

It's wonderful! I couldn't live without it, now I never need to think about missing programmes, phones ringing or anything else. It just does it all! I think my favourite thing is the rewinding TV, the number of times there's a noise and we miss what was said - now we can just rewind and hear it again!

I don't know how much it costs, but it is well worth it. We have multiroom too and I agree that I can't function now with it.

There are so many shows that you can watch now that you have it; for instance you can record torchwood now! :rotfl:

This time last year our normal Sky box was dying so we opted to go for Sky+ not wanting to pay £250 went for the multi room option and a Sky+ box for £49 and also got offered a second Sky+ box for an additional £49 :thumbsup2 So useful to have Sky+ now and be able to series link and watch another channel whilst something is recording. Instant replay and pause are alos excellent :teeth:

Sky have an offer at the moment. If you "con" a friend into taking a normal Sky subscription they will give you the Sky+ box and installation free. (I had some junk mail from them this morning  )

We did this too, it's amazing the number of times we will be recording 4 different things at once, why do they always put all the good programmes on at 9pm??

Our predicament was even worse. We'd already got multiroom, so to get Sky+ we were looking at £249. Periodically we would call them and try to get them to be reasonable, but without luck. There was no way we were going to pay £249 when others were getting it for £99 (or less). In the end, we just cancelled the existing multiroom contract and signed up for a new one, which they allowed us to do (but they still refused to allow us to simply have it for £99, even though the end result was exactly the same. Crazy.)

Anyway, the real purpose of my post is to say that we really shouldn't have put it off for so many years. Tim, I promise you it will be £99 well spent. As others have said, I really can't imagine being without it now.

Don't bother conning a friend into getting Sky - our B-i-l reccomended us and he is still waiting for his M&S vouchers 10 months on pirate:

Hi,
We got our's free after recommending a friend who just wanted the standard Sky box. Now I'm just waiting for an offer on the new HD box.

Mick.

We're getting tempted by HD too as we just got a new compatible TV. Not sure if we can really justify it though.

Got a Sky HD box for about £50 when we bought a 40" Sony Bravia TV (the W model) from the Sony Centre... was rather good deal (but the TV was fairly expensive!). We didn't have Sky+ before, so this was definitely worth it... :)
