Coming up during Xmas Week, we want to streamline things as much as possible, and part of that means skipping the baggage check. My boys and I will have pockets for cellphones and my car key if we drive ourselves, money and ID, and we have leftover minipacks of sunscreen if we need it. If one of us wears a fanny pack, does that person then have to go through the baggage check, or is there a small enough kind of "bag" that they won't worry about?

A lanyard like Disney sells with a clear pouch? No.

A fanny pack would have to go through bag check.

Any bag at all needs to go through bag check.

Correct - anything even as tiny as a point&shoot camera "bag" must be cleared by security. Your best bet to skip those lines if you have things that need a bag: have someone wear a jacket with plenty of pockets (I recommend zippered pockets if the jacket might get tossed around)

Jackets, pockets and lanyards, oh my!

Thanks for the tips - that's what we'll try and do....

I use one of the dry boxes (purchased in the resort gift shops) around my neck to hold park tickets, KTTW card & ID & I always use the "no bags" entry.

I used to have a pair of "park" pants. They were lightweight, capri length cargo pants that had two back pockets with flaps and button closures, two regular side entry front pockets, two front pockets with flaps and button closures, and two large pockets on the side of the legs just above the knee.

They weren't the most flattering pants. But I could carry everything and skip bag check.

I have been trying to find a replacement pair, but so far, I have been unsuccessful.

I'm certainly different than alot of people when it comes to the bags, but I just can't imagine not having a backpack with me. Especially when it's cold outside.

The ability to dress in layers and remove my clothes throughout the day, then re-add after the sun goes down. I can carry a sunglass case, snacks, my bottle of water, my maps, camera, phone charger, my resort mugs since i left my resort with a nice full cup of coffee, etc.

If you are there for rope drop, you won't get in the park any earlier without the bag than if you had a bag, and if I am not there at rope drop, I will just leave a little earlier to off-set any delays I might have getting in the park.

I read a tip on the boards that I haven't tried, but plan to next trip. Buy one of those thin nylon drawstring backpacks- they are small enough to fold up and keep in your pocket. Load you pockets with the bag, and your wallets, cameras, tickets, etc. You can avoid the bag check, enter the part, then take out the bag and fill it with your stuff. Then you'll have a bag to fill with souvenirs, etc, and not have to keep your pockets stuffed all day!

Because it's more likely to get stolen? I always thought that it was safer around your neck than in your pocket or purse.

The safest place for money, credit cards, photopass cards and room keys, etc. is probably in a business card holder size "wallet"in your front pocket. Something like this can be found at Office depot or Wal Mart for a few bucks:

Here is a Samsonite one for $10, but they can be found cheaper if you don't want something hard or leather:

I actually have 10 pair of cargo capris in different colors that are my "Disney" go to clothes - specifically to avoid bag check. Sometimes I fold up a plastic Disney shopping bag in one of the pockets in case I find I need to carry items, or if it's cool enough for a jacket that I might not need all day. Backpacks make my back hurt and cross body bags aren't a whole lot better, so going bag free is the best for me.

A fanny pack counts as a bag and yes, if you have one you need to go through the bag check. You must also remove the fanny pack before presenting it to be examined. Anything you can fit in pockets, do so.

Now that my children are older I love not having to go through the bag check lines. Everyone wears cargo shorts/pants and gets to carry a little something!

FYI: you can be asked to show what's in pocket re- jackets, cargo pants, 'photographer' type vest whole bag check thing should be quick painless and can be if everyone cooperates and is ready before their turn at table with Security hostess / host:
have all bags removed from body for inspection and compartments open
bottom of strollers count too all that stuff needs to come up so it can be checked
coolers are sllowed but not enormous you msy be asked to move the ice around so easiest is chill freezer packs
Diabetic/insulin kits,Epi-pens, personal first aide supplies, breast pumps, etc all of course allowed but you may be asked to open cases

No glass [baby food jars okay] or alcohol allowed
Camera bag =bag

Conversation / Interaction with Security CM;
NO 'cutesie' do I look like a terrorist? NO B word said as joke NO hostiliy sarcasm or abuse Security is the first CMs you encounter before entering park Most are former law enforcement and all are educated & licensed by State of FL ALL want you to have a magical and fun time and care about safety for all guests and CMs

Didn't mean to run away with your thread OP but saw an oppotunity to further elaborate on your initiial inquiry

For the record Security & bag check tends to be one of those 'hot button' topics via the internet with opinions frim understand it & appreciate it to the other end of he spectrum of calling it assinine, theater, ineffective etc I only posted what I know with the intention of m@king park entrance smooth & easy especially for anyone who may be ciming for the.first time and doesn't know I truly hope the pro.vs con bag chec« inspection debate does not start here as I made an effort to keep my opinion out of this posting

I'm envious of those who can visit the parks without lots of "stuff." I am the wearer of the family backpack and I'm going to keep trying to reduce what we think we need in the parks.

I'll be on the lookout for cargo pants :)

I am the bag carrier for our troop :)
Therefore I prefer a backpack as it is easier on the shoulders for carrying.

Best tip I was given is make sure all the zips, pockets etc are open when you arrive at the CM. Makes the process much easier and therefore quicker :goodvibes
