Skipping Hoop Dee Doo in order to see Festival of the Lion King

I've already busted the budget for our vacation. Our children 4,7,9 have never been and I don't know when we will go again. We have many PS's, the Illuminations Cruise and our last two nights we transfer to the Poly for R&R after 8 nighs at the All Stars. I've also upgraded our transfer from the airport to a limo. I've already busted the budget enough, so I can't justify both AK and HDD on the same day.. We also don't want to tire ourselves because we want to be up for EE at MK on Sun.

I'm so confused. The opinions are running about 50-50. Oh well!! I'm glad there is still time to decide.

Hi from S. Jersey as well!

I have kids around the ages of yours..and they saw a glimpse of the HDD on the WL Travel Channel special.

I asked my son (almost 9) what he thought, and what he would do.. and he was like .. "No, I'd rather ride rides" That gave me great insight. My son and daughter want to ride rides and meet characters. The only shows they specifically asked to go to were the "Mickey villian water show", (Fantasmic!)

My DD eats like a bird, and would not get the value of the kids meal from her.. what is it $24 per kid? She maybe, would eat one ear of corn... thats one expensive ear of corn!

We aren't doing any PS's this trip. My kids are very active, and full of energy. THe would not want to sit down to actually eat at a nice place... they would pester every five minutes "Can we ride rides now? Can we go now? "... Its not worth it to us.

We do counter service and they are happy, and we are happy as well.

The LK show is amazing. I have seen the Broadway produciton, and while this show is on a less grand scale, it does remind me of it. Our kids like energetic performances, and song/dance. This was perfect for them!

Anyway, good luck deciding. My DH has no desire to HDD!

Thanks for the insight!! My son is also 9 and probably enjoy the rides more as well.

My Mom has 3 extra passes from '97 when they took my neice down. They said they are too old to do Disney anymore so we can have the tickets. We now would only have to pay for 2 of us. I already know my childern would not eat much at the show. Also, they no longer serve corn on the cob( which my children do love) . Basically I guess I would just be paying for the show.

My husband also said he doesn't care. He is letting me plan everything. He just can't stand when I can't make up my mind. That's why I figure I'd see what everyone on the boards thought and make the decision and then tell him.

Well, then if you are just going for the show aspect of it.. I would personally put it somewhere else.

I can get country theme stuff other places. You could go to Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge and get some down home fun there.

What I am saying with all the entertainment options available, this just may be overkill. Did you even think of the FREE campfire/singalong at Fort Wilderness? They show movies, and Chip and Dale come to visit. You could do that, the petting zoo (if you older ones are still into that.. my almost 9 would go if encouraged.), and the campfire, for a nice FREE evening.

Personally I love the Lion King show, and will be there on the 23rd to wave it goodbye.

Mind you, there has not been any official announcement on the closure of the Lion King.. (not on the official Disney site, or any other site for that matter). It is not on any rehab or closure list as well. Could it not be happening? Could it be happening but on a different date? Who knows?

Personally I have no desire for HDD.. its just not us.

It is happening. In fact, it has already started. The major work won't begin until the 24th.

Maybe they'll make it longer when it comes out of rehab. They certainly can't possibly make it better.

Sorry you'll miss it. They aren't changing the show. They are only enclosing the theater and putting in air conditioning.

The dates for the rehab ar August 24 - September 19.
