skipping grades?

It isn't right to have a child required to spend 7 hours a day at school, plus homework for school & then have to teach whole other lessons during the evening!

I'm all for enriching my child but it shouldn't be the only way that her needs are met.

I have to agree with the posters who say a child shouldn't be kept bored all day in school only to do extra lessons at home on top of regular homework. Only if there are other in-school options should they be utilized first before having the child skip a grade. There aren't always those options, and the school should help you find a way if they don't want to accelerate a student. Perhaps the student could join the next grade level up for a few lessons instead of completely skipping.

But it is NOT fair to make a gifted child wait a year for the rest of the class to catch up. I know that firsthand.

You might check into these online math courses for gifted kids, offered by EPGY at Stanford. Sometimes this can be coordinated through your school.
