My husband and i are booked on 14 night Hawaiian cruise sailing October 2023. We love Disney cruises and the whole Disney experience even though we will be traveling without children. My question is about formal night. We've done formal night on past cruises, but really don't want to do it this time out. It was fun the first time, but now we'd rather not have to worry about packing fancy dress and really don't want to deal with the chaos of people trying to get their pictures taken. Is it possible to get the meal served in the dining room delivered to your cabin that night?

No you can’t, but you do not need to do that. Simply go to the dining room dressed as you want. It is a suggested dress code, if you wish to partake. We stopped dressing up many cruises ago. We simply go ‘smart casual’ and enjoy watching those who chose to dress up.

If you are staying in a concierge suite that has a dining table, yes, you can have room service from the MDR’s. Otherwise, you can order from the regular room service menu or enjoy the options on the pool deck.

If you don't want to dress up, just don't dress up. No need to skip the MDR. The formal night on our cruise, I would estimate less than 10% of people were dressed formally. You will avoid the chaos of picture taking as long as you don't try and get your picture taken.

On the longer cruises I have taken, casual seems to take over - partly because of luggage space. And, in general, this is the trend in cruising.

Figure an alternate route to get to dinner, avoiding the atrium, if you don’t like going through a crowd. You can use the side entrance to Triton’s (off the Promenade).

Aloha! Have a great visit to the islands.

Me, too. On our last cruises, I didn't feel like getting dressed up, especially wearing a dress. I wore a nice pair of black dress pants and a pretty top. Nice shoe (comfortable) and jewelry, nothing at all fancy. Not everyone gets dressed up. I lean towards most do not. You do you.

I've been on more than 10 DCL cruises and have never dressed formally on formal night. On my last few cruises, I would say the majority of guests do not really dress up anymore. I think the funniest one was when we were on the Magic on an Iceland/Scotland/Norway cruise and on formal night there were a bunch of teenagers walking around and chilling out in PJ bottoms. If I were on your cruise, I would wear what I wear almost every night on a warmer cruise - a sundress and sandals. It's actually one of the reasons we like cruising with DCL - it's definitely more relaxed than some other lines. I would wear what you are comfortable in and go enjoy your dinner.

Longer cruises are a little more formal, like 10 or more nights. But a collar golf shirt with a pair of dress pants will leave you looking like most others. Anything above a printed T-shirt and cargo shorts seems appropriate now. Though my last formal night had people super casual like they were going to mow the lawn or feed the chickens but it was a 7 night cruise. So don’t stress about it and don’t miss that meal. It’s my favorite meal of the cruise. I miss the old formal nights on cruises. Military uniforms, tuxedos, kilts. Dresses that sparkle.

It is totally your choice to dress formal or not. A good percentage of people choose not to on each cruise.
