I apologize if this has been asked before but I didn't find it in a quick search.

Has anyone had success with making same day reservations online or by phone at Skipper's Canteen? Do you know what time reservations open? Or can you only do it in person?

I'd like to make dinner reservations for our arrival day but our plane doesn't land until about 11:00 and we will start the day in Epcot. The reviews worry more than a little but the pictures make it seem so adorable. We love the Jungle Cruise and I would just love to see the restaurant!

Up to this point, it is a walk-up restaurant. No reservations taken.

Could change at any time, though.

They've been allowing same day only reservations for at least the past several days and they seem to be through the regular reservations system. It is impossible to tell whether it is pilot though since the powers that be clearly don't like to give out much information. :)

If you go to the wdw website and put in today's date, you'll see that you can make reservations online like regular ADR's. I believe same day ADR's open at 6am day of - but not entirely sure. Right now it's a test until Feb. 27th.

I made same day ressies last week and it worked perfectly. No issues at all. Really enjoyed it, too. They have limited options for picky eaters, but if you are adventurous, it is very unique and interesting. Great bread, too.

I booked around 3:20 pm and the only ADR available was an 8:20. If you book earlier, you might have more time options.

I wish they would just open it up to regular ADR's. The last thing I want to do on vacation is get up to secure a dining reservation or concern myself with it doing it on my phone while trying to enjoy other things.

I agree completely. I checked almost every day for months hoping to get an ADR prior to our trip.

They sent me a survey about my experience there and it specifically asked whether I would like walk up only, same day ADRs, 30 day ADRs, 60 day ADRs, or 180 day ADRs. I said 180 day ADRs. I know they are really trying to please people and were probably thinking about all the complaining about how a Disney trip has no spontaneity any longer. I think Disney was thinking some of those folks would appreciate a walk up only restaurant. However, I think the real problem is the fact that there are just too many who want to go to WDW these days. That requires pre-planning, and I have no desire to put my name on a list and wait around for a table- just like I have no desire to wait for 60 minutes for any ride.

I think I had a similar survey and, of course, I answered the same way.

I'm not sure how anyone could classify this restaurant's opening as anything other than a flop, IMO. Doesn't seem as if anyone has had problems getting walkup reservations, or now, same-day reservations. Maybe I'm wrong, but I cannot bring myself to believe that Disney is happy with SC's performance thus far.

I'm not even sure if it would help if they opened ADR's at 180 days at this point. I just think the theming and food is lost on the majority of people.

That would be interesting to know. I wondered whether it was the food and atmosphere turning people off, or whether it is a lack of knowledge that it even exists. There are negative reviews for many Disney restaurants, but the restaurants in the parks seem to stay busy, regardless.

When I was a Disney newbie, the way I learned about the available restaurants was by putting in a reservation request at the time I wanted to eat and seeing what popped up. If Skipper Canteen never pops up for anyone, it may be that people don't think about it. Seems like so many people plan their Disney trips so far in advance, by the time they get to Disney they already have the table service ADRs they want.

I just found out about the same day ADRs when I was there last week because I happened to get a MouseSavers email. Otherwise, I may not have even tried to stop by and get a table. The menu is unusual, but so is the menu at Yak & Yeti, and it seems to be pretty popular.

I think they should just add a couple of adult and child mainstream items in addition to their current menu to accommodate families with picky eaters (like, why not offer a Skipper Burger and fries?).

Do you think a few mainstream items would help business pick up?

I don't know. Maybe. It sure is easy to walk by without really noticing it though. We were there in late December and everyone was just walking on by. I'm assuming it's on the map now? Or in the times guide? I don't remember it being listed when we were there.

Thank you for the advice and first hand experience! I guess I'll practice being spontaneous and see what happens in April.

I totally agree! I don't enjoy waiting for a table or having to bother while on vacation to get that same day reservation. Until they allow ADRs then I probably won't be eating there. Not a fan of MK restaurants since I can't get a good drink at my meal. I would do it for LTT once since I can get an ADR there but that's about it.

If Disney decides to start implementing this for many of their restaurants then I will be doing most of my meals outside of Disney at restaurants where I can make reservations in advance of my trip.
