Ok I love skippers canteen. We've got a reservation to eat on our upcoming trip. I noticed the kids menu has changed slightly but I'm pretty sure my wonderbread kids will not want to eat what they have. It seems they have changed the Mac n cheese but I don't think it's the orange mac n cheese they like. They are also very picky about the type of chicken nuggets they eat. The breading can't be too much.

It's exhausting I tell ya. Do you think they'd be too upset if I grabbed some Mac n cheese from say Friars Nook or uncrustables from Pecos Bills for them to eat while we eat? I mean I intend to ask if it's ok but do you think they'll say no? If they say no do they have a secret alternative not listed on the menu you were able to get? Geeze why can't they just get some Uncrustables!!?!

Please no snark. I know how people get when you start talking about bringing outside food into restaurants but I'm 99% sure they just won't want anything. Help.

one thing to remember most places do not have to go boxes so how would you carry Mac & Cheese plus if it is not warm enough you will not be able to get it heated up as nothing from outside can be warmed up.

Friars Nook just serves them in bowls as a QS. DH would have to walk over and get it while we wait to be seated. Maybe they have lids too. That might help.

What's on the menu is what's on the menu. There are no "secret" items.

I would feed the kids beforehand or skip the restaurant entirely. I don't feel it's appropriate to bring outside food into a TS restaurant unless it's baby food for an infant. YMMV.
That might be the plan. Then maybe they'd enjoy dessert or the slushies. Thanks

I have yet to see or hear about a kid that didn't love that slushie. IMO those things are way too sweet for most adults, which puts them in pretty solid "beloved by children" territory. :)

I don't think they'll want you to bring food in, but you can probably find food that will occupy them while you enjoy your meal.

If it were me and you thought the mac and cheese and nuggets were out, I would probably order the fresh seasonal fruit as their "meal" and I would ask for a side of white rice to accompany it. I know every side is a "cost" they can put in and take out of the computer, so this should work. If they were still hungry, I'd then order them a 2nd dessert (like the volcano) if they wanted more. The fruit is a pretty popular combo (it avoids the dreaded, hated melon) and should occupy the kids and rice and fruit is like a nice light lunch - I'd eat that.

They won't eat rice. They're so weird. I think a pre-feeding is my best bet. They tend to get hangry and I can see them melting down. That way I can enjoy my dinner and they can have a drink or dessert.

I have no personal experience with this, but I've read in other threads that they will let you order something for the kids from the Liberty Tree Tavern menu because they share a kitchen.

Given recent LTT changes, I wouldn't rely on that.

I'm with the others on the pre-feeding, letting them order just drinks and/or dessert at SC. I did this a lot when my DS was younger and pickier and it worked out just fine.

I wasn't real hungry at lunch, but i enjoyed the hot and sour soup, the bread and honey dip and the Thai melon soda. My boyfriend had the fried chicken and rice and loved it. I can't wait to go back when I'm really hungry. Our waiter was great. We had a ten minute wait on a walk up around noon on election day.

I have a picky eater as well. To prevent listening to her whine etc, I skipped any restaurant I knew she wouldn't eat at. Or we had her eat something at a QS and just ordered a desert at the place we wanted to eat at.

I read, and you should confirm, that children can order from the Liberty Tree kids menu, which I gathered was less challenging to the truly picky.

So, I think there is an understanding by the staff.

I will definitely ask and report back. :)

I've NEVER had an issue at Disney (or actually anywhere else) bringing my picky DD food in from another restaurant. It's a waste of time to eat twice and it's all getting bought from Disney. You still got plenty of "it's not appropriate" comments, so I'm posting my opposite opinion and experience.

BTW, my DD had her very first hamburger two weeks ago.......at the age of 15!!!!! So they can eventually open up and try stuff, even if it seems like they never will! So I'm pretty stoked about trying Skipper Canteen in a couple of weeks too. Here's to a great meal for both of our families :)

"classic" mac and cheese is now on the menu and I have been wondering what that is... because of the kid food issue, Skipper Canteen is off my list, but when I saw the menu and see that they changed the "old" mac and cheese to a different presentation and name on the adult menu and now go through the trouble to call it out as "classic" mac and cheese on the kid menu that it would be something he would eat. Also the crispy chicken might be ok. I think he'd like the volcano too. It might be too late to score an ideally timed lunch for my upcoming trip though :(

For the most part I don't go anywhere where my child can't eat. I don't need to be adding extra time and hassle to my trip by feeding him first (then having to keep him entertained while he is not eating during my dinner), or bringing food from elsewhere. There is nowhere I want to eat that badly that is worth all of that nonsense... Buffets are great for picky kids because if they decide they don't like the look or taste of something, there is other stuff there for them to eat... plus often characters for entertainment... but also some tasty stuff for adults (maybe not gourmet but I've never not had enough to eat at a buffet). IMO it's just better to accept that if you have kids with you, it's going to be a certain kind of a trip rather than trying too hard to please everyone. If you want an adult meal where you don't need to consider their needs, stick them in the kids club for an evening and have a date night.
