Skipper Canteen menu changes?

Hopefully any changes don't happen until after our May trip. If it does get dumbed down, I feel bad for anyone who wanted to try it for the different-ness of things. My 4-year-old would absolutely eat the grilled fish and the chicken noodle soup. I guess not many kids eat fish (unless it's school-version fish sticks). But is chicken noodle soup exotic? I didn't get the impression from the menu that this was pho. My kids eat pho, but they also eat squid (not just as calamari) and things other children wouldn't, so I don't even know if pho is exotic other than by its name.

Pho isn't exotic. Pho is life.

We were unsure if we would try Skippers next trip as the reviews have been so strongly mixed. Quality of
preparation, portion size, unusual, etc. I am interested to see what they come up with. I personally like
adventure in dining but the dining is so limited in this very crowded park I understand this may not be the
location to go with such a concept. They can do better than chicken nuggets and burgers and still appeal
to a much wider crowd..which they kinda need to I think.

The original post on this rumor said it was info from a CM at the restaurant. Also said they are expecting to completely remove the original menu..with some items going elsewhere like Tiffins.

This is great. I really wanted to try this place and enjoy the ambiance of a sit down restaurant in Adventureland, but is it too much to ask to have a cheeseburger or some mac and cheese on the menu? Maybe they could try and 'exotic' it up with some swiss cheese or something, but this will make it much easier to go and sit down and eat. Maybe they will have some exciting chicken nuggets with a mild Thai dipping sauce?.

Not going to lie - had to giggle a little at this post and that swiss cheese could be considered exotic on a burger.

LOL @ swiss cheese being exotic

Well it is from a whole other continent??

They could also have some jalapeno poppers and maybe some sweet and sour chicken balls. This is the type of exotic flavours PEOPLE ACTUALLY WANT!!!! The rest of that menu is either gibberish or too frightening.......

I really hope the original menu holds out for the next few weeks. We are doing all counter service, but I had planned to do this one TS because I loved the different menu. Will skip it if they remove the items we were interested in.

Weird...every decent steak place around here charges well north of that
I don't know where you live but around here the finest slow roasted in house 14 oz Prime Rib with a large salad, baked potato, and house made rolls and butter, is $22.00.
Sixteen ounce is $24.00, and I'm not talking about Golden Corral, Ponderosa, or any of the other chain steak houses. :D

Awww DRAT......
Now I'm hungry.......:guilty:

First thought that came to my mind when I read the OP...We can't have nice things
Couldn't they give it a chance? People haven't even had a chance to try it yet.
Sigh.

Like there aren't 100 other places to get "American" food at WDW? So, more burgers and fries? How about they do something useful with Gaston's, which is a waste of space, IMO. If they want more American food why don't they actually make a decent menu Gaston's.:idea:

I think in general kids menus at Disney should have a few options that are mini version of signature dishes at the restaurant

1) No way it would happen.
2) It takes the same amount of labor to make a big size as a slightly smaller size.
3) The only savings is in material, not labor, overhead, or utilities.
4) The DDP reimbursement rates would/could not cover such an expense.

NOTE: Of course there would be a large contingent of parents who complain the food is too fancy for their kids' tastes. This would be a no-win situation.

Couldn't eat at Outback for that price here (NY area)

I giggled, too. None of this would be exotic.

Annnnnd now, I am hungry!!

I haven't eaten at Skippers Canteen yet, but I have looked at the menu. I'm not sure I would classify it as "exotic", but definitely a departure from the typical theme park burgers and fries type food. If the conclusion they have come to is low revenue out of that restaurant is due to the menu not being "dumbed down" enough for Americans, then I suppose changing it is the right thing to do. Although I would hope that they would leave much of the menu the same and add one or two plainer items rather than swing the pendulum all the way to the other side and completely revamp it to be "American friendly" (whatever that means).
