No app. I distinctly remember spending time on the phone that day to get the reservations when ADRs first opened.

For the life of me I can't remember how much notice we had though. I want to say around a weekish (I know we had at least enough time that I knew despite having all ready booked my other ADRs I had to be up early that morning) but I may be completely wrong. This was 3 years ago.

Yes it was only by phone initially when BOG first opened. I believe it was not till later on when you could get reservations online. I too remember both me and the wife being up early that morning and calling on multiple phones. We were soooooo excited when we finally were able to get thru and snag an ADR. This may be like déjà vu .... all over again

We're leaving tomorrow for a Friday check in at WL. We're leaving the 19th. It's my assumption, the way our luck usually runs, that it will probably open the day after we leave....sigh...
But,if I hear anything,I will certainly post it immediately!!

I did see a rumor that they may open with just walk-up reservations through the end of the year with ADRs beginning in January. I hope this isn't true. I have a trip in late December!
Why do you hope this isn't true? If it is open to walk-ups in December, and you will be there in December, then you have the same chance of getting in as everyone else in the park that day. In fact, you are guaranteed to be able to eat there as long as you are prepared to put your name on the list and wait. But the minute ADRs become available, your chances of dining there decrease. The only people who will be able to dine there once ADRs open up are the people lucky enough to snag one, and there is no guarantee that you will be one of those people. Just like with BoG. Once ADRs opened up for that, it became nearly impossible to get one. ADRs are convenient for planning purposes. But in terms of maximizing your chances of getting in to the restaurant, "walk-ups only" is the way to go.

We go every year the week after Christmas. Thinking of what MK looks like at that time of year, and the placement of the restaurant, I just can't believe they will have walk ups that week. It would be a mad house of congestion with people out waiting. I'm beginning to think if ADR's aren't up and going by about 12/22 or so, they may just wait until after the New Year to open it.

I'm with suspit in that I'd also prefer they open ADRs soon rather than take walk-ups. I'm traveling with three kids and our youngest has disability-related issues that make planning (especially meals) important. When we eat without an ADR, it's almost always for lunch and as early as 11 or 11:30am to avoid CS crowds. If we can't make an ADR for Skipper, we'd probably skip it.

I think Disney is all over the place on this one. Sometimes it's been phone first, other times online seems up and running first, sometimes basically at the same time.

I just booked a Blue Bayou Paint the Night package for DL - no announcement that booking was beginning that I saw anywhere (I just kept refreshing that page periodically), and I was able to book right away online.

You never know, it seems...

When BOG opened you had to call.. I remember the hours I spent on hold
The website was brand new with lots of problems and no way to make ADR at that time..

i believe we were given little under a week notice about ADR.. (Seemed like a lot less)

I don't think they are going to add it to the app and website right away.. The website and app have been VERY glitchy with ADRS lately.. I was having some real big issue making ADR last week for our last min jan. Trip.

What was happening was
-I would go to the page and find the place we wanted to eat. Hit find a table, select a time, and then I would get a error message..
-I would X out of the page and upon going back in the time would be gone! Called disney dinning and they would not be able to see/find the exact time either.. I was bummed cuz there was 2 places (ohana 8:25 pm and BOG 8:05am) only had the one time available. I thought I had missed out and someone else snagged them..

- I was checkin the website about 1-2 hours later and poof! The times were back!!
- Clicked on them and got the same error message.. Called disney dinning again, they couldn't find them..

- After that I refreshed the page every 10 min.. At 1 hour 40 min They were back again!
Called Disney dinning and got them both!!

I think there is a new background program that is holding the reservations once you click on them..Similar to have tickets site work..
Once you click on the time you want you have so much time to complete the info and get the ressies

If the website/app is still acting up.. I doubt it would be able to handle the volume of people that will be trying to snag those ressies.

I hope this isn't true too.

If I can get an ADR now. Great! Give me a set time and date so I can plan around it. But I don't want to be hanging around, waiting and hoping for one on my trip. No thanks. If ADR's open now and I don't get one? Oh well. No big deal. Maybe next trip.

Will this place have a bar? I think I might skip the ADR scramble and just take my chances of getting a seat at the bar in Feb.

That's the big difference. For someone who is largely indifferent, then the ADR system is fine. For someone who really, really wants to go there and would be disappointed if they couldn't try it, then walk-ups are the way to go. ADRs are a crap shoot. Walk-ups are a sure thing, as long as you are willing to put in the time to wait. Sort of like riding TSMM standby versus using FP. Arrive at RD and prepare to wait, and you are guaranteed a ride. Rely on FP and you might not get one. The poster I was responding to sounded like they really, really wanted to try it. Not everyone feels the same way.

I to, really, really want to try it and also have an upcoming late December trip. For the most part, anyone who is following this thread is probably going to get an ADR, because well, we're following this thread, and as soon as one person reports that they've made their ADR for the Canteen, we'll all be making our ADR's, probably even before Disney announces it. So I say, bring on the ADR's!!!! :thumbsup2

I REALLY want to try it, and have always had good luck getting whatever ADRs I've wanted.

That's if you define "good luck" as "continuously stalking Disney's website, setting email alerts on DIS threads, and setting Twitter alerts on DPB..." ;)

I called this morning and not a hint of when it might open. I was reminded to keep watching the official Disney Parks Blog for more information. I did see a rumor that they may open with just walk-up reservations through the end of the year with ADRs beginning in January. I hope this isn't true. I have a trip in late December!

We will be there starting Jan 2nd - this "watch" every day is getting old already… If January is when ADRs start then open them up already so I can move on to obsessing over something else!!! :rotfl:

What's the Gazebo thing for? Bar? Stage?
And and porters post? Only large groups or special section?

FYI.. Jungle and sea room may be switched..

Porters post looks like the hostess area/entrance. Octagonal area looks like a bar but that leads to the question of is there going to be alcohol served in the Canteen?

At the least, they'll have wine. They had a somolier listed as part of the SC staff back in October.
