Skip MVMCP? What will we miss?

Hi all,

We're usually not the type to overthink a decision like this. If we want to go--we just do it, regardless. However, with 5 of us (2 being adult prices) it's going to cost us somewhere around $192 with a DVC discount. DS turns 16 that week and we're hoping to surprise him with (putting flame suit on:scared: ) a day trip to US/IOA.
So, my question is, during the week of Dec 6-13th, what are we going to miss if we decide NOT to do the MVMCP????? I would hate to think I would passing up something that I would regret!:guilty:

Thanks!:)

No kids here, but a group of us went to MVMCP in 06. It was okay. We were more interested in the rides than shows/parades. In 07, we just went to the EMH night at the MK, which was a much better situation for us. the park was dead, everything was a walk on. We stayed until 1am, and felt like the last ones there. It was a way better experience and saved us $50 each.

If you want to see the show and parades, go to the party, but if you can live without it, don't bother.

The atmosphere at the Christmas party is great. It's so festive, and it snows on Main Street. The characters seem extra cheery. The parade last year was fantastic, and the fireworks are great. It just seems a lot more fun and laid back in the park at the Christmas party.

I think it's worth going to, especially if you've never gone before.

We've been twice and I didn't really find it a big deal... I'm guessing because my kids (boys 3 and 5) aren't really into shows and parades, and I think that's the main reason for going. I don't think you're missing anything incredible if you decide to skip it!

Great question. I have been trying to figure this out as well. We are doing so many other "extras" on this upcoming trip, that I am not sure I want to spend the extra money.

Keep the opinions coming!:worship:

I totally agree :thumbsup2 ... :santa: ...

We are skipping it. I went the past December and was not overly thrilled with it.
I liked the snow on Main Street but, I got to see snow at Osborne Lights too.
The parade was cute. There were parts that I really liked, the rest was just okay.
The fireworks were great.
The Twas the Night show was the favorite part of my night.

However, it was a sell out night and the crowds were just ridiculous. The waits for the characters were really long. I think that put a big damper on my festive mood.:sad1:

I really can't decide what to do about MVMCP. We are going with the entire extended family - and I don't think anyone else is going to want to pay the extra money to go to MVMCP. I'd like to go with my family - but I'm not sure how DD7 and DD5 will do with the late night. It could go either way with the 5 yr old.

So - I'm still trying to decide. I want to get the full Christmas experience!

i think we are going to pass on the party, i think seeing the decorations during the day will we good enough for us. Plus DHS and Epcot have alot of Christmas activities going on. I am putting the money towards an extra night as the park tickets won't cost that much to add a day.:cool1:

I think the MNSSHP and P&P have more to offer, plus you get to dress up and treasure hunt which is always cool. :goodvibes

If you want the special merchandise you can only get at the party, you need to go. The cookies and hot chocolate weren't bad either.

I agree with some other posts that have stated that MVMCP is very entertainment oriented. The Christmas parade, Twas the night before Christmas etc. can only be seen at the party unless you want to visit right around Christmas when there are crazy crowds. I love shows, parades, and characters and had an awesome time at MNSSHP.
My family did MVMCP and they seemed to mostly enjoy walking onto rides with less of a wait however you can never really know how many people will be at the party and if this will be a benefit on the night you are going. I did notice a trend however that on the night of the Christmas parties there seemed to be much lower crowd levels at MK throughout the day I would imagine because the park closed earlier.

That's where I'm coming from too! DD will be 5 then and she'll either be the energizer bunny or completely out. When I talked to DH last night and told him about the parade, fireworks and the shows he thought we should go. So I think we'll bite the bullet. Who knows if we'll ever go during this time of year again. I'm still having a bit of a hard time expecting NOT to have any pool time.

Any idea when the dates for DVC discounted tickets will be available?

What will you miss at MVMCP vs. regular MK day?
- Christmas parade
- Holiday Wishes fireworks
- MVMCP merchandise, pins, etc.
- Snow on Main Street
- Dance parties with the characters

Twas' Night Before Christmas will be playing at least 1 day (want to say it was Saturday last year) during the daytime when you are there.

Also, I believe they had a daytime showing of the Christmas Time w/ Belle.

- Hot chocolate and cookies (not very good - decent - but not $50 good ;))
- Green and red lighting

We skipped it last year, as there were EMH nights until 2AM, so we could still easily get on all of the rides without paying the extra $50. Even then, the only rides that were hard to get on during the day were Peter Pan, Pooh, and possibly Space Mountain. You can work FPs out to your advantage during this time pretty easily. If you really want to see Holiday Wishes, you can see it from the Poly beach.

So unless you have young kids that can't stay for 2AM EMH, or really want to see the parade, it's not really worth the money, IMO.

I just saw the unofficial prices for this year - $55.95 for the date we want to go. And $49.95 for children. I'm just not sure I can justify it.

I DO think the dance parties sound fun and seeing all the characters - so I'm torn. I hate to think I'm missing something! Anyone else like that???

You could always do a dance party with characters by going to Mickey's Backyard BBQ. Sure it isn't holiday themed but you do get to dance with some characters. The food is decent and it includes adult beverages.

I agree, i hope that ain't the case, otherwise i can't image spending that, must do something else...:scared1:
