SKIP Kohl's for the 30% off Imaginext

I ran over to Kohl's tonight because of their "Extra! Extra! Specials" and left completely disappointed. The regular prices of their Imaginext toys are so much higher than the manufacturers prices that even with the 30% off, they're still more expensive. I got up the Fisher-Price website in the store and couldn't believe the difference. A toy that was at Kohl's for $22.99, was listed as costing $14 on the Fisher Price site. The Fisher Price site wasn't showing sale or discounted prices. So buying the item at Kohl's with 30% off would have still cost more than what Fisher Price has it for.

When I politely asked about the price difference at the Service Desk, the women there replied that "We offer a lot of sales and coupons so we have to mark up the prices." That sentence pretty much sums up why I won't be shopping there again.

I'm 98% sure they could have price matched Fisher price website also I know a lot of times the stores carry exclusive sets. You are free to do as you choose and I don't blame you for not buying it at kohls if they wouldn't price match it.

They did not make an offer to price match, even when they scrolled through the FP website on my phone to look up the price and said that theirs would be more expensive if I wanted to buy it. They commented that if I bought it from Fisher Price I would have to pay shipping. I was so boggled, but I did have the manners to bite my tongue and not say "And Amazon has it for less and they have free shipping and I don't pay sales tax". I really wanted to keep it apples to apples.

The only exclusive I examined there was a chintzier version of a toy my kid got for his birthday earlier in the week.

I wouldnt have been happyw ith their response either....... but, I bought a few things the other day... they were 40% off, used the 30% coupon then got $10 in kohls cash for every $50 spent

Businesses are free to sell good for whatever they see fit. You don't have to pay the price if you don't want to. ;)

I also can't see asking someone at the service desk that question, and expecting they would be able to give you an answer. Do you think they have anything to do with how stuff is priced? Coming from someone who works retail, at that point is probably seemed like you were just trying to cause trouble, no matter how politely you think you worded your question. There is no answer they could give you, and if you are honest, I think you know that.

Kohls really isn't a toy store at heart, so I'm guessing they don't get as good a deal on buying them as a Target or Kmart would. I wouldn't go there looking for bottom of the barrel pricing on toys. For that I would go to Walmart or Kmart.

If you had asked, I bet they would have priced matched for you. I have noticed lately if you want them to honor a late coupon or ad you need to ask. They won't offer.

That's entirely true :thumbsup2

Personally, toys are the one item I would never even consider buying at Kohl's. Their prices have always seemed so much higher than everywhere else even with sales & coupons. I usually stick with more of a general big box type store like WalMart or Target for toys

I have gotten some GREAT deals in Kohl's on toys, but as with everything, everywhere: you have to know your prices and weigh the options. I don't expect any store to always have the best price on every item in store.

This is Kohl's business model. Inflate the "regular" prices and then tell people that they are getting a higher % off then they really are. It is up to the consumer to know prices and consider only the end price. With that being said, we have gotten great deals at Kohl's.

Was $22.99 the Kohls regular price or sales price?

That's the reason why I hardly ever go into Kohls even though there is one really close to our house.

It's just too much work for me to play all those coupon and kohls cash games and I never feel comfortable just buying something without having researched it first. It's easier now with smartphones and you can price check on the spot, but it still seems like almost a part-time job.

Kohl's is a really odd store. I think their return policy is annoying too (they allocate the $10 Kohl's cash to everything even if the amount not returned is over $10). The FP Disney Princess castle is pretty much $49.99 every where else for full price, is over $70 on the Kohl's website. Ridiculous. You can get some good deals, but generally they're probably not as good as you think they are.

Lane Bryant does that too when you have a dollar off coupon. If you look at your receipt, they allocate the $25 dollar discount on a percentage basis per item. If you return, you get credit for the final price for that item after all discounts. It's only fair because techincally, that is what you paid for that item.

I've had this argument with others before, and I really don't see how it's fair. If I bought one $12 item and one $50 item and used my $10 Kohl's Cash (which has no minimum purchase requirement!) to spend a total of $52, then they should give me the full $50 if I have to return the $50 item. Now that I know their policy I only buy what I know I won't return. I try to avoid Kohl's in general, but lately they've been mailing out $10 Kohl's cash and I use them to stock our birthday gift stash.

Look at it this way: The $10 of Kohls cash doesn't come off of one certain item, it comes off of the whole receipt. Both items combined, not just one or the other. The way to avoid having this happen is to have your kohls cash items rung up separately.

Be aware too that any gifts will be affected by you making returns when you use kohls cash for the purchase.

I find it easier to think of the kohls cash as a coupon. If you return an item that you purchased using a coupon you don't get the coupon back.

I have found that Kohl's can be a good deal and equally can be way too expensive. You just have to know your prices, know your sales and pay attention to who is giving what.
