skechers prima ballerina spinner warning

Thought I would give the disers a heads-up on the new Skechers prima ballerina spinning shoes before you spent your money on them. Apparently they are the rage for fall. We were at the shoe store with DD (5) this weekend and they had just come in and the clerk brought them out from the back and asked if she liked to spin (she definitely does) and said she was the first kid to try them on at their store. The clerk told us they had been getting call after call to see if they were in yet. DD put them on and did a spin on the carpet with no problem, although the carpet doesn't really let you spin very well. The clerk told her to go over and spin on the wood floor to try them out. DD went to do so, and the minute she spun on those things she completely lost her balance and went crashing to the floor and almost took a table of shoes down with her. She loves to spin around on regular shoes, but she had zero control with the spinners. We definitely did not buy them. She also said she could feel the spinner under her foot when she walked and they were not that comfortable. DD can be clumsy so maybe it is just her or maybe it would be okay for kids a little older, but if you are thinking about letting your kids have them, I would be sure they try them out once on a hard surface (preferably with nothing around they can injure themselves on) before spending your money on them. The last thing we wanted after seeing how she crashed was for her to be walking the tile halls of her school with those things on.

My dd has them, she is 9 though.. she starts school wednesday so will see. Thanks for the warning.

My dd9 was begging for these in the Skechers store the other night. I vetoed them figuring that she would like them for about 5 mins and then the first day of school someone would call them babyish and that would be $50 wasted. She was walking and twirling fine on them, but the tapping sound they made when she walked was super annoying to me.

I noticed that tapping sound too! Isn't it funny how they can love something until one of their friends doesn't, or they can hate something and love it the next day because their friend likes it! Scootch, I hope your daughter loves the shoes and is more coordinated than mine. DD was wearing a size 11 at the beginning of the summer and she had a sudden massive growing spurt in the past month and now she is at a size 13 so we discovered this weekend that none of the shoes we bought her for fall (12s) fit ) We had to go shoe shopping again last night because we only found one pair last weekend, and there were a couple of different kids in there with their parents and the kids were asking their parents if the store had prima ballerinas and my DD was going up to them and telling everyone that those shoes slide out from under you when you try to spin and they were bad shoes.

no point in buying them here as the school will ban them like they did the roller shoes..........our shopping malls etc do the same thing

They are probably slick like new heels. Wonder if those tread pads would help.

My 11yo opted for them as she is about sized out of kid shoes and was excited that those came in her size. She has had no tripping issues--but she is older and has ballet experience to navigate the turns.

I figure they must be somewhat annoying as she does not where them all the time. She uses them as a casual dress shoe right now.

(We homeschool--so no worries on peer pressure.)

Like when the girls start tap lessons and they slip all around in their tap shoes! I bet the schools will veto just like the roller shoes. Our elementary had to say no flip flops because of all the injuries (recess mostly) and some girls fell in the halls.

Sounds like a scary event for you have to watch as your DD nearly went down. I don't think we are going to get the current craze anyways, we save for WDW and our next trip.

I have to agree that it will be just days before the schools say no spinner shoes.

DD started tap when she was 2 1/2 and I recall her slipping a little when she first put on those shoes, but she never went down like this!! I think you guys are right that the schools are going to ban them pretty fast!

MinnieVanMom-- you're right it was scary, and she did completely go down! I had to pick her up from where she was sprawled all over the floor. My big worry as I watched her go down was that for a minute it looked like a whole table of shoes was going to come down on top of her because she hit it when she fell and also tried to grab it to keep from going all the way down as she was heading for the ground. I had a vision flash in front of my eyes of her starting kindergarten this week with a cast on her arm. You should have seen the clerk's face! She was apologizing all over the place, since she had brought them out to DD when they were not even on display in the store yet. I felt bad for her as she was just trying to be nice and do something fun for DD. I don't think that she will be bringing them out for any other kids unless they specifically ask to try them on!
