Skate Park

Hi all
Just arrived back today after 3 wonderful weeks. Our 14 yr old son is into skating in a big way and bought a new pair skates (blades) with his birthday money. We were told by the shop that sold the skates that their was a skate park on I-Drive so we set off to find it. What a find!!! For anyone who's children are into skating it is a 'Vans' skate park, it is brilliant my son thought it was fantastic and the highlight of his holiday. As my son had his own skates we had to hire helmet + pads, he had a 2 hour skate session and it only cost $20. You can also hire skates or skateboards. The skate park is part of fesival bay shopping complex so you can shop while the kids skate. It is just 2 minutes from Belz also. Anyone taking slightly older children who have been there, done that, it's a great afternoon out.

yes its at Festival Bay and we went to have a look in May Looked great fun and at last something for the older kids!

My son cant w8 till he gets to the vans skatepark, he has been saving money for over a year to spend there.

Glad he loved it. He was a bit disapointed in 2001 when he could see the start of the complex and was hoping they would build and open it within 2 weeks LOL .


Was also glad to find out that virgins travel insurance does cover your children while in the park.

Where is the skate shop?
we went last year and spent many an unhappy hour trying to find a skate shop for my son to buy skates - there seemed to be a sad lack of rollerblading stuff. I'd be pleased to know where you found one

Hi Janedo
There are two skate shops, one on I-Drive close to the skate park and one on Dr Phillips drive. Both are called 'Universal skate and surf shops' or USS for short. My son has brought skates back 2 years running it's becoming a bit of a tradition.

We too, thought the Vans skatepark was a great find
DS (absolutely skateboard mad) loved it. Top of his list for visiting next summer. In fact it is the purpose of our entire trip according to him....LOL
